Ordered the premier from Herrings before.. I found the leather and stitching to be alright... average but not fantastic.

Ed et al is ok. One of the better value for money. I won't say the workmanship is fantastic, but for the price you're paying, it's much better than most of the shoes out there. Go for their 3rd collection. The leather quality is much better.

Ordered a pair of Meermin and waiting for it to arrive. They told me it'll take about a month..

Learnt that you ordered a pair from Meermin, I am quite interested in their Oxford 12153-S, as first time trying to buy thr online and considered being a huge gamble and investment, I wrote to them for the advice on the right size to decide. Until today, they have yet to come back to me, may I know, how did you manage to get reply from them? Or how do you normally decide the right size? For I measued my foot is 280mm, shall I go for 298mm or 302mm? Many thanks.

Ed et al shoes really age very poorly. The leather quality leaves much to be desired. I was all for supporting local brands but after buying their shoes (3rd collection, no less which is supposed to be better), i feel like its not a good deal for the prices they charge.

Even loakes 1880 cost less and wears better, considering that its made in england and shipped here. Edetal is made either in China or Vietnam yet cost more. No reason for this, even meermin made in china can sell for under $300 shipped from china to spain and from spain here. Local retailers need to wake up to the reality that competition for business is very global..

I agree with the comments above. After reading a number of positive reviews on Ed et al shoes in this forum, I went to their shop and take a look myself. I was rather disappointed, especially I thought I could get reasonably good quality shoes in the ~SGD 300 price range. They have a couple of interesting designs but I think their worksmanship and quality are much to be desired for that price. In general, I can sense that their ideas are really nice, but the execution and material choices are not up to standard. I would not pay any money for that kind of quality at all, as I have to compromise on comfort and durability. They are trying to position themselves in the low-mid range decent shoes category but I would rather spend my money on other brands. I own Loake 1880, Carmin and Couvari shoes, and I love them and I used them as benchmarks on quality. I would not compromise quality regardless of the price. I would rather save up and buy more expensive shoes than getting less than satisfied shoes at a lower price. Based on the shoes market available online in Singapore, I think Et ed al shoes are overpriced and not up to standard at least to me. As much as I would like to support local business, I would not part my money for something which I do not like at all. I certainly hope they can improve their quality in the near future. I am also rather surprised the Shoe Snob blog gave a positive review on their shoes.

Bro, the shoe snob guy gets kickbacks/ discounts/ free shoes from different shoemakers and his posts are not entirely objective. His reviews always put people in very good light and the reason behind it is not clear to everyone.

Just like alot of food bloggers here have commercial interests that skew their reports. Automatically, you know when you are being invited for tasting that the owner of the place will put more effort and maybe better ingredients compared to their day to day operations.

The Shoe Snob guy has his own line of shoes too. While I admire his passion on shoes and I do learn a few things from his articles, but I now know that some of his reviews on shoes may not be truly objective.

I now have been trying those high end shoes when I get the chance, like Berluti in Ngee Ann and John Lobb when I was in Taipei. They are really nice and have set a very high standard. But still their prices are steep, so I have to ponder a little bit before I commit.

I agree mostly with what you said. For $300, it's pretty decent. I heard there's no fourth collection per se, just different variations in terms of colour or leather of the 3rd collection.

Bro how's your meermin coming along? You got the linea maestro right?

I've got 2 LM models and 1 classic collection so far. The LMs are a sturdy well made shoe. No major flaws. Good construction overall and leather quality lives up. I've mentioned before they feel slightly better than my crockett and jones bench grade. It fits better than my 348 last on the C & Js as well because it has a slightly lower instep. I was very pleased with the LM model when it came honestly. Feels alittle heavy but sturdy. After a dozen wears, the leather holds up very well and softens up fairly much after two coats of renovateur.

The classic collection didn't come up well for me. The stitching for my shoe didn't work out because the shoe was not lasted properly at the front. So for Meermin, i guess its a hit or a miss. Or either that QC for the classic collection isn't that strong. Still tbh, i'd give meermin a run for my money rather than ed et al except for sizing issues. I must say even the classic collection uses better materials and is relatively cheaper with the depreciating Euro

I ordered a pair of Meermin LM, but still waiting for them to get back to be on the availability. I was told it'll take about a month, just to wait for an available pair. From what I read on other forums, Meermin is a very small family owned business. Recently, they got popular due to reviews and blogs, and are suddenly experiencing a huge demand. So there are people complaining alittle about their speed and communications.. the person whose replying to me doesn't speak very good english either.

I know I'm my UK size in Loake and gave them the same size and asked for their advice. As their LM range is a narrower fit, they told me to get a half size bigger than my usual.

It's true that shoe snob can have some biasness. The shoes he reviews are all given to him for free.. but he tries to point out the flaws in them..... very softly...

Grizz, unfortunately, their last for the LM collection is just not for me. Going up 1/2 a size just makes the shoe longer but not much wider.

Regarding shoe reviews, nothing as honest as paying retail and wearing it day to day. Feel the pinch if the shoes don't measure up.

Anyone in Singapore can do flushed metal toe taps? Recently got a pair done by B Nelson while resoling and I think it is nice. But rather uneconomical to send every pair of dress shoes I have for such operation.

Hey hey, no need to kick up such a big fuss after all we are hear to learn more from one another and make our hard earned money's worth when it comes to making a purchase. I mean when it comes to shoes there can be so much to learn even about just one brand.

For church's, there's all that controversy about pre prada and post prada. Still after my visit to the store in ion, it really depends on which shoe you are getting. I mean firstly we all established that the shoe snob can be slightly biased, secondly he can be talking more about a fashion forward line of the brand.

I've seen some of the church's shoes at the store and they are full grain, full leather lined, nice finishing, no visible problems with stitching. You might just want to check out more which shoe you are actually purchasing. I believe those of the classics on herring are pretty good quality. Just that for $600. Hmm. i'm sure you can get better.

Don't think so. Do you know your size in EG? RL tags on quite a significant to their EG shoes. In any case, very few RL shoes will be made by EG going forward.

From what i've read, people use Acetone to strip the existing finish, before dyeing it to a different shade.

Renomat is not strong enough to strip the existing finish (it will be splotchy, if it even strips at all).

Considering a pair of new shoes too... if you have a $300+ budget, do you guys get the shoes online, herring uk? Think the cheapest there are Loakes or Barker. Any other reliable websites? Or is there a worthy shop around in singapore?

My current cheapo shoe is breaking apart soon lol... not sure if can last 1 month shipping time, might look to buy something cheaper at $50-100 this week first. What can I get besides Pedro? Anything in Aldo or elsewhere? One time buy 2 shoes, can feel the pain in my wallet lol.
