Is 13 Ultra worth buying now? I'm a long-term Samsung user and have been using S7, 8, 9, 10, and 21 until recently my s21u got 1 then 2 vertical lines.
It seems that the vertical line is pretty common problem with Samsung phones, I'm considering switching and am impressed with the 13 Ultra camera. My observation after some research is that except for the camera, 14 Pro is better than 13 Ultra in (almost) everything else, and 13 Ultra is also in the same price range as S23 Ultra.

Very hard decision here. I'm open to both android and iOS and switching to iPhone 14 pro is another possibility.

The last time I went to XM store during end of Dec to check, it is at $1599 (price dropped from $1899).

As long as the screen is AMOLED, OLED panel from China or Korea, got chances of kenna-ing green/pink/vertical lines. That's why the local warranty comes in handy when it happened. Last time LCD screen no such problem...

Idk. The biggest deal breaker of xiaomi IMO is the OS. I happen to be interested in 13 Ultra just because of the camera. I don't take that many photos. My go-to android phone choice was Samsung because of its well-rounded phones. I'm just too frustrated with the vertical lines and turned into anti-samsung user. Unless I can snatch a good deal for 13 Ultra, I may opt out to buy an iPhone.

Xiaomi 14 Pro is not that cheap, given it's China set, and is not easy to send for warranty. I feel like I'm having bad luck recently so need to buy phones with local warranty to be assured.

iPhone CS probably the best among all the phone brands. But for warranty claiming, have to make sure the phone screen is not cracked, no water damage etc. If not they will find ways to not honor the warranty.

XM13 Ultra comes with 2 years warranty.
iPhone is 1 year, need buy Apple Care to make it 2 years.

I actually like MiuOS for the dual apps capability as I run 2 sims. Its the only one that does it near 100% correct.

I dislike HyperOS for the increased battery drain vs MiuOS.

Camera wise..love the 13U...as many had said..the master lens for portrait mode is unbeatable. The 13U is a massive phone...don't get it unless u use the camera alot. Else go with the other 13s for all rounders.

As for local warranty..yeah 2 yrs international is great on the 13U. Its a really well built phone..had dropped it several times without the cover and not a single scratch or damage..touch wood!

The 13 Ultra is an excellent phone for me. The cameras never fail me. Mine is 16 GB + 512 GB China ROM.

So far I have dropped it once but it is still working fine. But also thanks to the thick handphone cover

If you are aiming for a good camera phone at a lower price, 13 Ultra is better. Go for 14 Pro for the faster processor and slight upgrades on the rest of the hardware.

For now, I've checked BNIB prices, Xiaomi 13 Ultra is $1300+, S24Ultra is $1400+, iPhone 15 Pro Max is $1650.

I will be trying to find 2nd hand local set of Xiaomi 13 Ultra with 1-year+ warranty for around $900+ for a while. If cannot then I'll opt out for iPhone 15 pro max.

No preference. Both looks good. Vibrant for certain scenes when u wanna extract out more colour or dull light.

You're referring to shopee/lzd listings right? But there's always a small chance that the screen, which is the most expensive part, will break. I didn't want to buy extended warranty for my old Xiaomi Monitor 34, but luckily I bought. I thought my Samsung phones would never get vertical lines if I never dropped the phones, I thought the rumor Samsung phone's screen broke after software update was a myth. It turned out the xiaomi monitor broke twice, my s10 and s21 screens broke shortly after software updates.

Flagship phones now usually use similar LTPO screens. Can't trust capitalist manufacturers these days. They want us customers to change phones every year (only need it to last longer than 1-year warranty period).

Finally, buying the local set is buying assurance for a limited period.

I won't pay $300+ extra for a $1k phone 2-year warranty. Typically, the seller will bundle a few months' warranty, which I feel is sufficient.

yeah I agree 300+ is too much. They use camera kit and wireless charger to justify the markup price. Also the global ROM is fuss-free for non-technical users for all the software and notification issues.

Yeah I just chatted with them. The process is to send the phone back to their warehouse, they check and see if can be repaired, which I think is unlikely, then send it back to China for repair.

Finally, I bought a Xiaomi 13 Ultra CN. For now I use GPay and local banking app (DBS) no issues. Can GPay and DBS run normally if I unlock bootloader and install custom ROM, say xiaomi.eu or the Elite HyperOS ROM?

Also, phone has been upgraded to HyperOS CN already. I heard that on HyperOS, we must have Xiaomi Community account lv5 at least to register for bootloader unlock. May need to use this repo to bypass bootloader: https://github.com/MlgmXyysd/Xiaomi-HyperOS-BootLoader-Bypass.
