The mi box 3 and s are basically the same thing. Same processor but the mi box 3 is clock higher (2Ghz if I'm not mistaken). I had the mi box 3 for 2 yrs before it finally died. I replaced it with the fire stick 4k instead of the mi box s because support for the mi box is horrible
no HD audio passthrough support for mibox s.. so basically not very much the same thing..

The HD audio passthrough is due to licensing issue. I heard xiaomi is disabling that feature in future update for the mi box 3 too

I think I read it from reddit a long time ago. Can't really confirm whether its a reliable source but some mi box 3 owners were spook by it that they decided not to update their system lol

Yes, just bought mibox s a week ago and did the update. The tvb app works fine at the start, can't pinpoint the exact reason why it will stop working after a period of time when switching back to the app. Clear cache/data/forcestop doesnt work.

Quite tedious to uninstall + reinstall + pair again every time it occurs.

Can't even cast using iOS app also (as alternative).
Are u using the mi box s? My shield tv received the pie update last month and some apps either stop working or have issues playing properly

My router is in the living room and I'm using the fire stick in my bedroom (only one wall in between). Connection wise, there was never an issue eventhough I'm not sure if it's using 2.4Ghz or 5Ghz (I think its set to auto). YouTube always start playing at 1080p (my tv can only do full HD).

One reason i got the fire stick is because I already own the Nvidia shield and just wanted a basic streaming device for my room.

exact same reason (also tv can only do HD 1080 is enuff for me)
just want something that can cold boot fast and stream with ease.
but the new roku looks good for the reason being it can be powered entirely by the USB port on around 98 percent of TVs.

I only tested this app for a short time yesterday so I can't really vouch for it stability. At least for me it was running ok. No force close or hanging issue

Yup. That's one advantage of the roku. Just a usb port would suffice

It doesn't matter where the source come from. What matter is whether the source is reliable. I think the story originated from a mibox user group from Facebook with an official from xiaomi. The story somehow made it to reddit and that's how I came to know about it

U need 1A to power the fire stick and most usb port only give 500mA. A power supply is provided with the fire stick so might as well use it
