Suggest to get the latest version of Mibox for future proof. I did not jail break mine and installation of apk can be done easily via usb thumb drive.

I installed xbmc (youtube and 1.channel), youku and it can stream smoothly without VPN.

I use VPN for watching netflix, Icntv.

Anyone encounter slow playback in youku app?
Any suggestion to overcome it?

Any vpn to recommend?

I am able to stream youku smoothly by lowering the setting to 高清.With VPN can watch in 超清.

Not sure if this also help I register an account with youku on PC and installed youku unblock. When I go to Mibox I log in to youku with my username and password and it remember my watched history and my favorite so I think unblock geolocked setting on PC will be remembered as well.

Agree. Gotta use snappea to import apps from com or use shafa apps to download app.
Also cant use the QZYB app like the himedia box which i tested.
My parents also find it hussle to use the box, complain no TVB or taiwan variety.
I sold away mine with xbmc and sopcast on it to another bro who happily using xbmc streaming. :D

strange my 1s can run 全有直播 yesterday with no issue. but my box not with me now as being tested by seller prior to selling :s13:

noobie better buy other brand, xiaomi not noobie friendly.:)

I don agree. My opinion is those that never play handphone before better off with stinktel or starfug. I don't see any differences in apple tv, android tv box against smart phone. Only the interface is via remote or air mouse. The rest are pretty much the same.

There is a difference. Xiaomi thinks that the icntv provided is good enough and don't want users to install new apks. Other brands encourage user to install new apks, it is easy to install and many come with play store or their own market.

Give someone who has a android phone a xiaomi 1S and ask him to install an apk. Most likely he cannot do it without asking experienced xiaomi user.

For the rest of android boxes, it is as easy as plugging in a thumbdrive. Most android box will pop up a dialogue box to guide the user to install the apk upon detection of apk in the thumbdrive.

Besides Google play there's xiaomi market which can be downloaded mah. Don't tell me android phone user only download apps via Google play only. So many 3rd party market out there even Google play also tell user to download apps at their own risk. Most of the problem just need to tinker and hands on to solve it. Good e.g like initially when i installed xbmc and couldn't get the video diaplay. U give me the solution and solve it. From there onwards i will always play with settings fiddle here and there to try things out first. Not saying xiaomi is good lah but every box got pros and cons mah.

Can install apps from Google playstore to Mibox by downloading and installing the app on Android smartphone first then use air droid to copy the apk to usb thumb drive.

Simply plug in the thumbdrive on Mibox and once it detected apk file in the thumbdrive it will guide you to install.

But not all apps is supported i.e Youtube will not work. Hence I use xbmc, with youtube repo to watch YouTube videos

I didn't say that xiaomi is bad, I just say it is harder for new users to use compared to other brands.

I spent some time reading through the forum before plunging in to purchase the Mibox. Not as easy to use when compare to my android smartphone but its fun to play with to see what work and what not.

Yes, there are many other brands out there that provides a much easier experience especially for newbies. And thus, i do not see any inventive in buying the MiBox as mentioned

And i think for some, the android box is not just a streaming media player. Some of us buy android boxes to add TVs with smart features like Facebook, Youtube, Google Maps, Flipboard ...etc. The MiBox does not allow such features straight out of box due to lack of Google Play Store.

Root it and explore it. The fun thing about such box is for user to hands on and have fun with it. Just like in the old days playing with overclocking PC run 3dmark etc.
