i also thought so. But I think it depends on your needs. Mine is a original stock firmware box. For now, I installed Kodi, HDPTV, Togic, and Shafa (actually I will rarely use shafa I think), and I feel more than enough for me. Since I seldom watch streaming, the original xiaomi player and Kodi are sufficient. HDPTV and Togic are just for me to try out.

As of now, no rooting nothing for me to do.

Maybe, I need to find stream source to watch live football on Kodi or other app.

stock firmware cannot, must be rooted then can hardware acceleration.

im using software acceleration, OK for my usage for now, so I did not root yet.

What's you mibox firmware version by the way? Seems like it's only supported up to 1.3.50 for the root to work

Oddly, the big mibox no. But the new mini mibox all the acceleration are turned on w no problems.

Thanks for the guide. Just one part I need to confirm though. The root app is launched from the pc and did you update to the latest firmware prior to rooting? An empty sdcard smaller than 32gb must be inserted in the box as well?

My mi box was on 1.3.63 i think when i did the root process

if you have not installed the USB driver for your mibox on the pc, you need to do that first. I just installed shuame on my pc to get the USB driver installed before using the root script. Rooting using shuame will mostly fail on the mi box but it helps with the driver installation.

I formatted my 64GB micro sd card to a single 32gb FAT32 partition in preparation to root my mi box.

i think you should download the root package from the one drive as that includes english version or else your command prompt will be gibberish.
