paiseh abit lost here. i thought both slots can support 4G? even when 2G is gone in singapore, will still have 3G right? then one slot can run on 3G, the other slot run on 4G? when overseas, both can run on 4G?

On specs it stated that there's dual 4G SIM support, which means that you can put your SIM card on any SIM slot and you can get 4G/3G access, not like some devices(eg. Zenfone 2, Redmi 1/s/Note 3G) that are hardwired in a way that you die die can only put the SIM card that you want 3G/4G access on a slot that is designed for it, while the another is 2G-only.

Technically, it states dual 4G but in actual terms it meant that you can only have one SIM that is 4G/3G in use, while the another SIM will be in 2G network-standby. You can configure yourself which SIM you would like to have 4G/3G access and the another would be in 2G standby.

Same underdtanding from me. I guess the omly different compare to other phone is you do not have to take out the sim and swap into different slot.

Is just a sales trick to capture those has not chance to test out the phone.

I had alrdy enabled it but whatsapp still cant read frm my contacts.....

It happen to my 1S, and early verdion of Firmware with Redmi 1. If your contact send you a whatsapp message. It works. Believe is firmware bug in certain version of code.

thanks for the clarification. looks like its just both slots can support 4G/3G, but in reality only one sim can be on 4G/3G. by the way, 2G means for call and text only right? no data roaming?

It happen to my 1S, and early verdion of Firmware with Redmi 1. If your contact send you a whatsapp message. It works. Believe is firmware bug in certain version of code.

So its Mi's firmware that is causing Whatsapp not to recognise google contacts or even contacts saved in my phone? I can receive whatsapp from others, but i cant save them so that their name appears instead of their number and keep asking me to save or report and block...

mine working fine thou. i suggest to try reinstalling your whatsapp and rem to accept the Contacts access permission prompt popup

It's the 'Prevent Pocket Dials' feature that is activated when something is covering the proximity sensor when the screen is on. You can switched it off under 'Display' in the Settings, iirc.

so if i disable the prevent pocket dial feature it will charge normally like all phones?

I must say you actually know what you're talking about because i didn't mention if i have a casing that covers the screen which i have.

The problem with this is that even when i disable the cover mode in which when i close the casing on the phone screen it instantly locks somehow it will still turn off when i close the cover on the screen unless i do it carefully.

You see i also stream videos unto my tv and i like to close the case cover on my phone but sometimes the entire phone screen switches off and then it doesn't stream anything on the tv anymore even when the cover mode is disabled. Anyway to get around this?

2G also can go internet. At those old modem speed . But finally 2G will be gone. So you cannot even make phone call on 2G.

Yes. Tried that before. It does not work. But if it work before, it continue to work even new fw is installed. Anyway, even it works, the message always get delayed. Quite problematic.

This phone cannot multi task gracefully. I was trying to use it to take photos while hotspot to my tablet. The camera was so sluggish n phone became super hot that I was forced to shutdown phone.

Xiaomi phones all like that. Extremely "ungraceful" when multi-tasking. Played around with Mi3, Redmi note 3g,redmi 2 and mi4i as backup phones... all same thing. It's good value for $$$ as a back up phone, as long as you don't demand too much for it. The "cute" thing about Xiaomi 's budget phones is that they are less laggy & more bang for the buck than the premium brand's budget phones. However, when multi-tasking, you practically boil an egg on the phone LOL.

Anyway, don't think i test out their so called premium line Mi Note/ Pro. Anything above 600 bucks and as daily driver, Sony/ LG/ Samsung/ HTC will still get my $$$.

The closest competitors (dual sim) are Asus Zenfone 2 (5.5"), HTC Desire 826 (5.5").

But it still has the weak points of mid-range Android phones, such as mediocre performance and buggy software. While the software will take long time to evolve, I hope Xiaomi will release a $300-$500 phone with 32GB/64GB storage and 4GB RAM or upgrade the processor soon. Because I don't really trust Asus Zenfone.

Huawei Ascend P8 seems to be a better dual-sim phone, but it costs $600+.
