Actually it is not true that Xiaomi has no reseller in China. They have many Mi store in many city. Also they do have store in those major department store like Shunling (<< spelling may be wrong, is a big chain like local HN).
I didn't say they don't have resellers Bro. I said they have a different marketing model whereby they target the towns and rural areas. The resellers in these areas get big cuts from selling their phones as compared to selling Xiaomi.

Think about it: if you r selling phones and you have 3 handsets with the exact same specs, selling at the same price. Brand A gives you a $50 profit, Brand B $55, Brand C $250. Which one will you push more?

Geographical location is a key player here. We're talking about China where it's huge. Traveling from a town to a city to get a phone will not make sense for the common folk. Imagine us as a small town and we'll have to travel to KL (still considered a relatively short distance) to get a certain brand of phone, will you make the trip? How many folks will?

Next comes warranty and support. If you choose to buy an "obscure" brand, how much support do you expect to get? An example for us will be to get a Leagoo branded HP. This brand has support and centers all over M'sia, but will you be comfortable getting this brand even if it's cheap?

Xiaomi is doing a great job with their phones and they are targeting the global market, that's why they are not focused on the "rural" markets in China. OPPO and Vivo sees this and are making great use of the chance to expand their market. I suspect this is the case too in Batam (or Indonesia), that's why I mentioned that they have their banners splashed all over the place.

Unfortunately Xuaomi, especially Singapore is enjoying great profit and hence promoting lots of parallel importer. Even within China. Many unauthorized reseller. For some reason, they are able to get the same Xuaomi set at lower price, and allow them to sell same or even lower than Xiaomi official price.

If you lI've in China for long, you will know Xiaomi is rated as best 山塞 ie clone phone in the market. Marketing method is quite different from Oppo, Huawi or other major China brand. This is also why Xiaomi lost few B$ last year.
