Bootloader must be unlocked first and then follow by installation of TWRP via Fastboot mode, then install the EU ROM zip via TWRP. Bingo! Happy forever after 15 minutes. :)

All the brief steps can be found on EU rom web site.

Can refer to my steps 2 pages back to get the idea of the whole process. :)
Ok.. I collected the phone and the firmware is 8.1.6.0 which I suppose is the much earlier version of the global rom. But since this is an export set which originally came with china firmware I assume that the bootloader has already been unlocked? How do I trigger TWRP on startup to see if it's been installed?

So I choose be choosing one of this roms to flash?

I think that procedure may not work with new rom already.

Anyway, below is my personal note, copied from here and there and from few bros here who have contributed quite a lot. :s22:

**Note: Follow my guide note at your own risk hor. :s8::D

<< eu rom - twrp and rom installation steps >>

What do you need:
: Unlocked Bootloader.
: adb program. (Any adb program).
: Download the correct TWRP.zip from eu rom.
: Download correct eu.rom.zip.
: Unzip the twrp.img to pc.

01. Copy twrp.img into adb program folder.
02. Open cmd prompt and go to adb folder/directory where you put the twrp.img in it.
03. Power down phone.
03. Plug in cable to the end of the phone.
04. Vol- / Power to enter Fastboot mode on phone and connect the other end of cable to PC immediately.
05. Using cmd inside the adb program directory.

*********************************************
fastboot devices
fastboot oem device-info
fastboot flash recovery twrp.img
fastboot boot twrp.img
**********************************************

07. > *Phone will reboot by itself into Twrp recovery.

---------------------------------------------------

01. TWRP can ask for password, press cancel and allow modifications by moving slider.
02. <Wipe Cache/Dvk>
03. <Monut> (select Internal Storage).
04. <Enable MTP> (It should has been enabled by default) and copy the rom.zip into your phone.
05. Copy the eu rom.zop to your phone internal storage from PC.
06. <Install> to flash your rom.
07. <Wipe Cache/Dvk>
08. Flash latest supersu (Only If you need root).
09. <Reboot> the phone.
10. Setup up your phone as per normal likes with official Xiaomi rom.
This is the guide you're referring to?

Yes. Correct rom file to download. Pick up the latest 8.2.3.0.

After entering Fastboot mode on your Mi Max and connected to your pc.

On your pc from any adb program folder. Issue the 1st command below to make sure your Mi Max is detectable by pc and then issue the 2nd command to check if it is unlocked or not.

The 3rd and 4th command are to flash the TWRP and reboot your phone into TWRP again to install the rom.zip in your phone.

If your phone is locked, the 3rd command will give you errors.

Just realised my SMS incoming got no alert sound. I posted this problem on the thread before and i thought it was due to the low volume wave file issue.

I missed a couple of sms'es due to this problem. :(

Checked all the notification settings and everything seems to be configured properly.

Anybody else have this issue?

The only sound that i get is when the delivery notification is returned after I sent a SMS to someone else.

Looks like it's related to the update.

Anybody else having similar problems? Hate to do factory reset to solve this. :(

I think i managed to fix this after clearing data for messaging apk and allowing access to media files when prompted after apk was cleared and re-opening messaging.

The Facebook Messenger app also faced the same issue. Couldn't assign custom sound.

Needs to grant Storage permissions then can choose custom sound.

Basically, storage permission issue lah.

one of the oldest versions of China stable rom miui 7.3.15

the main thing is, I have stopped using Google due to the countless of wakelocks. maybe this factor attributes to much better battery life.
I rely just on dropbox.

and so far my contacts are saved in SIM card LOL

my usage ,
basically I don't play games.
surfing on opera mini browser, listening music via earphones/speaker (still can hit >10mins SOT/%), occasionally whatsapp, SMS, some misc usages on expense manager and business calendar.

not sure what I did, but straight after charging to full, the first percent can last > 1hr SOT upon usage, sometimes even 1h30m. increased from the 40th min.

main thing is my smartphone is googleless.

Interesting. All this time my other phones also has same behaviour. First 1% take long time go down. But in this mimax the first 1% take same as other number to go down.. maybe slighty longer but not by much.

Do you experience late notification in whatsapp using china ROM?
