Ok.. I collected the phone and the firmware is 8.1.6.0 which I suppose is the much earlier version of the global rom. But since this is an export set which originally came with china firmware I assume that the bootloader has already been unlocked? How do I trigger TWRP on startup to see if it's been installed?Bootloader must be unlocked first and then follow by installation of TWRP via Fastboot mode, then install the EU ROM zip via TWRP. Bingo! Happy forever after 15 minutes.
All the brief steps can be found on EU rom web site.
Can refer to my steps 2 pages back to get the idea of the whole process.![]()
This is the guide you're referring to?I think that procedure may not work with new rom already.
Anyway, below is my personal note, copied from here and there and from few bros here who have contributed quite a lot.
**Note: Follow my guide note at your own risk hor.

power of root, tweak, disable and finally googleless!!!
Just realised my SMS incoming got no alert sound. I posted this problem on the thread before and i thought it was due to the low volume wave file issue.
I missed a couple of sms'es due to this problem.![]()
Checked all the notification settings and everything seems to be configured properly.
Anybody else have this issue?
The only sound that i get is when the delivery notification is returned after I sent a SMS to someone else.
Looks like it's related to the update.

Anybody else having similar problems? Hate to do factory reset to solve this.![]()
Ok.. will try it out soonYes. Correct rom file to download. Pick up the latest 8.2.3.0.
After entering Fastboot mode on your Mi Max and connected to your pc.
On your pc from any adb program folder. Issue the 1st command below to make sure your Mi Max is detectable by pc and then issue the 2nd command to check if it is unlocked or not.
The 3rd and 4th command are to flash the TWRP and reboot your phone into TWRP again to install the rom.zip in your phone.
If your phone is locked, the 3rd command will give you errors.

I think i managed to fix this after clearing data for messaging apk and allowing access to media files when prompted after apk was cleared and re-opening messaging.
this is sorcery ! may I know which ROM and kernel are you using and what is the typical usage ?
best I read so far 14-15 hours with WIFI only, yours are amazing
my best personal experience is only 10 hours with 3G and Wifi ON
Just out of curiosity, what makes the EU rom so much better than the global one?Good. You will love the EU ROM deep deep..![]()
one reason why I never go EU, because I want googleless.
one of the oldest versions of China stable rom miui 7.3.15
the main thing is, I have stopped using Google due to the countless of wakelocks. maybe this factor attributes to much better battery life.
I rely just on dropbox.
and so far my contacts are saved in SIM card LOL
my usage ,
basically I don't play games.
surfing on opera mini browser, listening music via earphones/speaker (still can hit >10mins SOT/%), occasionally whatsapp, SMS, some misc usages on expense manager and business calendar.
not sure what I did, but straight after charging to full, the first percent can last > 1hr SOT upon usage, sometimes even 1h30m. increased from the 40th min.
main thing is my smartphone is googleless.
