Hi,

I just bought a 32 Gb version from NewStar. It comes with a miui version 7.9.11.0 and some adware. I trying to flash it to original rom but to no avail. I using the updater but unable to download any original rom. Secondly, for direct usb connect in order to use mi suite, the PC usb cannot detect the handset.

Any advice how to resolve this? Thanks.

you can try unlock it first and flash it via fastboot.

for al those stuck at 50 % the correct way to do it is , make sure you login to the phone's Mi account with the mobile number you gave for unlock dont login with your email or username . Login with the same mobile number on the MI unlock tool as well. then run the unlock will work perfectly. unfortunatly no one on the MI forum posted this.

Confusing :s13:
i didnt apply for unlock this time for my mi max. I merely used back my mi account (applied for unlock permission for note3 previously) by logging into same mi account on both the phone & unlock tool to proceed unlocking without any issue.

that said, i believe the unlock permission is tied to the mi account which MUST be used on phone & unlock tool.

for stable quick updates choose 650 , if you want more storage and dual sim then 652 as u get sufficient 64g internal and can use 2 sims .. if not have to SD card.and loose 2nd sim slot

speed N performance wise speed wise no diff ? If no diff, than 16gb version also 650..but with 2gb ram. but than again...2gb ram and 3gb ram...how much diff is it going to make ?

no need for dual sim, as for storage....128gb mirco sd card now is quite cheap

then your safe bet is 32GB model as 16gb will never be released global so u wont get global rom or even much support. 2GB ram really not enough for games and some apps. best safe bet to go with 32GB as its the most common model and has quite good support already.

thank you sir.
I tot that could be the case, cos I used another mobile#account to apply unlock permission for my own number, which I received otp and approval smses from. Guess what, after logining both, fastboot, stated my phone unlock not approved/eligible yet.
Btw, anyone can share the page to apply for unlock permissions again? Miui.com/unlock doesn't have the application link.

Sent from phone using GAGT
I used another phone to apply for unlock also cause my mi max got no sim. The unlock is tied down to yr mi account. When u apply and when using the PC software, both mi login must be the same

Sent from Xiaomi MI MAX using GAGT

The OS part should remain the same except the boot and few other files , I will try to compile the MIUI* Global rom and the boot files from the china rom should be able to get us a global rom for the 64GB model .

After dropping phone few times, the aluminum back cover, thin as paper finally came off, and clips back in easily like a normal back case.

Shd yours split on the volume/power side, do not press in back same side, as the power/volume connectors very fragile there. Unclip whole backcase, align on volume side, then press back on the SIM side. ( sim tray to be removed before removing). I made the grave mistake, now power actuator broke off its solder (will try solder back).

Good thing, changing battery in the future will be easy. (Just need to unclip/clip the fingerprint sensor strip for better hand movement)

actually this aluminium back cover, although it looks much better & sleeker than the predecessor plastic casing, is very fragile imo. i've yet to dropped my phone but have already noticed a slight chip/clipped on one of the edges. :s22:
