Hi all,
I'm looking to get a low cost phone with good battery life, and something that is overall a good (enough) phone. I've never owned a Xiaomi before, but the price and specs of the Mi Max look good. Can someone here post a quick review of your experience with the Mi Max so far?

My use case:

1. Reading PDFs for work, E-Books
2. Writing documents in Microsoft Office
3. Listening to music
4. Watching videos occasionally
5. Browsing the internet occasionally
6. The typical email and instant messaging applications

Requirements:
1. Must have long battery life, as I move around a lot.
2. Must have decent audio output through headphones (not the high end type, just the simple Ajays types).
3. Good clear screen for text display.
4. Reasonably tough and decent build quality.

I was also interested in the Mi 5, as shown in the Mi SGP site, but that doesn't seem to be offered on sale anymore.

I'm currently using the following devices:

1. Nokia Lumia 1020 (2013 model), running Windows Phone 8. But battery life is poor.
2. BlackBerry Passport (2014 model), running BlackBerry 10. App support is lacking, but has decent battery life.
3. I have used an LG V10 - great screen and display, but lousy battery life. I don't need that kind of performance, due to my use case.

Your advice is appreciated - thank you!

They support VFAT but I've never used that format before... bit annoying since I was hoping to use my external Sandisk USB (the one with a USB-A port on one side and Micro-USB on the other) to watch movies/videos stored on there.

VFAT is an even older file system used back on Windows95! I doubt anyone still use this. So just stick to Fat32 formatted SD card or ext USB, with the 4GB file limitation.

ish gd de...
:) was it you who recommended it? I didn't dare wait for the one from Aliexpress - the faster I protected the screen, the better. I just wish they made a privacy screen for the Max.

Is there any way to separately control the ringing and notification volume?

I want the ringer to be the loudest possible but the notification doesn't need to be that loud :o

Yeah, Mi Max Upsized model. Lol!

No lah, I'm not using this. Too bulky and quite exp @ USD20++.

Just an option for anyone who is looking for the ultimate rugged case for extreme outdoors activities. Reminds me of those UAG or tough armor type of cases.

Haha!

Anyway, I think the best is still using the thin TPU Clear Case that shows off the beauty of Mi Max but at the same time doesn't add bukiness to a already bulky Maximizer...

MI Max is different from the Maximizer bra...not the biggest the better in term of case.

Don't confused Mi Max with Maximizer bra.... Kekeke.

Please make yourself very clear about that. Lol..

@ramius_mark
We have similar needs so here's my two cents'....
- battery life is good but I'm not having the superlative experience other posters seem to enjoy. Maybe I haven't got the settings right or something. I can go 2 days without charging and I usually am reading books and surfing.
- reading on such a big screen is my fave so far and there are a number of decent free apps so you're not stuck with the pared down free version of Aldiko if you use that.
- likewise, videos look way better and I think the sound quality is better than on my prevs phone which sounded harsh.
- Haven't tried editing docs yet.
- I use a Bluetooth headset for calls and music and find the volume and quality okay. But I don't have any high expectations in this area so take that FWIW.
- It's very slim and light for its size. Am looking forward to putting it into a non-slip case for better grip although I use a ring holder now.

I've just gotten my set from the Lazada offer recently.

I have only 2 inquiries that I would like to check with you guys. Is it common that Mi Max...

1) has pre-set screen pattern lock? Mine was locked, but I waas lucky to guess that it's an "L" pattern to unlock

2) has one side of its speakers stronger than the other? In my case, at the bottom of the phone, when I cover the right side of the speaker while playing music, it was muffled. But when I cover the left speaker, music volume is the same, it feels as though the left speaker is not working.

Please advise
