After so many times of update and routine reboots, the 100% correct password failed to unlock the phone. In the end it said '8 more trials before wiping data'! WTF, I'm not Tom Cruise man! After 2 more trials I left the phone aside first because of work. After 3 hours I took out the phone again only to discover it has already self reset!

This is a major fail in the 'all the while has been so good xiaomi report card'. #%;^=+#

did u apply China VPN/proxy?

Hi all, any advice from MIUI seniors is greatly appreciated.

I did restore for SMS/call log/calendar using Easy backup. Only call log/calendar are successfully restored but not SMS. I found under Easy Backup - App info - Permissions Details, there are read call log, write call log, read calendar, modify calendar but only read SMS, no write SMS permission. Is that the reason why cannot restore?

How to grant an app full permission?

I rmb you gotta make the backup/restore app into default SMS app before you can perform restoration. After restored you change it back to your SMS app.

What is Easy backup? You should have used the default backup system in MIUI found in settings->additional settings->backup & reset->local backup

Easy Backup is for manual/scheduled backup of SMS/call log/calendar events.

I never tried MIUI Backup & Reset as it states backup system and apps (with data). It's not very clear which and what will be backup... :o

Anyway I successfully restored the SMS. I transferred the csv file which Easy Backup created to an old phone and restore to it without problem. Then I tried backup to xml format using another app and transfer back to Note 3. This time restore was working. So both MIUI and Easy Backup are partially responsible I guess.

Easy Backup got scheduler and drive support too. But this time it won't work. So yes, I changed to SMS Backup and Restore and managed to restore everything.

My earphone jack got problem, must push the earphone pin to the side then can detect the earphones.

But i'm not sure whether its hardware or software problem as i can get my earphone to work as per normal when i use an app call soundabout which route the speaker port to the earphone port.

I also recently updated to the latest miui 8.5.7, about when i start experiencing the connectivity issues with my earphone jack.

I only have the problem when i use earphones without (volume control, i.e those earphone with only 2 pins). When i use them i notice that i need to push it in slowly, like halfway until the phone detects it as earphone without mic, then wait awhile for ~2-3 sec then push it in all the way. If i immediately insert it in fully, it will be wrongly detected as earphone with mic, then the icon will disappear after 3 sec. (i.e if u playing music, 3-4 sec later it will change from earphone to speaker). This for me is a software side bug i think. It only happened to me on miui 8. So about start of this year Jan. Tried going service centre repair but even after changing motherboard still same problem. Service centre claim could be xiaomi incompatibility with non-xiaomi branded earphones. (BS)It's kinda xiaomi fault but cannot confirm if its software or hardware. All over miui forum got ppl in india also complaining.

TL:DR can't do anything.

Miui 9 is Android version ? Takes so long to release stable

For Redmi Note 3, it's based on Android 6.0.1 for MIUI 9.

Other devices such as Redmi Note 4(Note 4X), Mi Max 2 and Mi 6 are based on Android 7 Nougat for MIUI 9.

I tried ported Miui ROM (Elite or something) on Redmi Note 3 Pro. Pretty slow. But most things worked. Mine is 2GB version. Maybe that's why.
