Just got the china set. Spent about 2 hrs trying to figure out how to flash to global rom.
Is there something done wrongly with my flashing? There are tons of themes in the china rom. But it is very limited in the global rom.
There is zero theme in the cartoon category...

Btw which keyboard and browser are u all using?

Then this phone looks nice without casing. But is quite painful when holding it for prolonged use. How many of u are using without casing?

I use swiftkey and stock browser
I like the stock browser
It will cache the previous page so whenever u wanna go back previous page
Press the back button and the page will appear instantly without downloading again

Not sure how many pages it will cache
So far i tried around 3 pages and they are cached

China set with SD chip or MTK chip?

If it is a SD chip, then super easy to flash Global ROM in less than 10 minutes to make it a "locaL' or Pro set whatever you wanna call it!:s22:

MTK chip then a bit maifun I think..:s11:

-----------------------

Keyboards wise, I use SwiftKey for English and Google Piyin for handwrting Chinese.

Browser is non other than the awesome Chrome!

--------------

As for casing. Go buy the Clasy transparent thin TPU case from MobileSquare at just $10. (Not promoting for them. Just that they are the only shop that I know is selling the Clasy case).

A very nice casing that keeps the good look of your phone visible to yourself and othera. :)
I believe SD model is for HK/sinkieland market only so it already has the global rom by default
How is 7.3.5.0 update so far?
Have not update to this version yet after reading some complaint few weeks ago.
Very good. Previous 7.3.2.0 was only getting 8hrs sot now about 9hrs with latest update with same usage pattern

Been playing with it since yesterday. Quite exiting as this is my first MIUI phone.

Couldn't connect to 5GHz out of the box. Updated to 7.3.5.0, ok liao. Stable connection for ~7hrs.

SD650 performance is really good, faster than my G3. Battery is awesome!

The built in automatic brightness seems working surprisingly good. I'll try it for some more time and stop using Velis for the mean time

The bundled security app and built in RAM cleaner also very good, simple and functional. Think can use less of 3rd party apps now...

Stock browser is almost perfect, better than most that I've tried all these years. It's lean and clean, not like most browsers there're always a lot of annoying useless shortcuts/bookmarks/speed dials that can't be removed. Only one thing I don't like - no bookmarks sorting. OMG.

Some other minor complaints:

- no double tap to wake (yet)

- notification bar too thin, have to put a clock widget for quick peek of time. I removed the original clock widget (that one which disable the clock in the notification bar whenever it's displayed). Anyone knows where is it? I couldn't find it back

- low light camera is a weakness

- metal body very soft. Better use hard cover and avoid accidental knock and bump. Can be dented easily

local set hard to find, online seems to be only place to find this phone (for now)

true savings only ~$50
Lucky me tried Challenger yesterday and got one last set. Last time I was looking for a particular model of PCI-e wireless card. Went down to SLS and most major popular shops all no stock. Came back went over to Challenger tried luck. Also got one last box! The feeling was like found treasure like that... :D

Yah. SwiftKey doesn't support handwriting for Chinese. AFAIK, only Go Keyboard has that.

Which one you using now?

I use Google Pinyin keyboard which has the Chinese handwriting option.

I know that Go keyboard has it and I actually can use Go keyboard for both the English and handwrite Chinese but I don't like the English keyboard on Go keyboard.

Therefore, my choice to switch between the 2 keyboards amid the extra step.

Afterall. I only handwrite Chinese occasionally.

Swype supports Chinese handwriting input. Bought it during Google play 25c sale long ago

Well I switch between English, simplified Chinese & traditional Chinese daily and I've been looking for one perfect keyboard for that purpose for very long. For now I'm using Sogou 搜狗输入法. Got handwriting but I use pinyin. Convenient fast switch between both Chinese format, also got emoji that displays correctly... But English is a bit weak. Got prediction but no correction.

Hookay.

I tried Swype Keyboard.....slightly laggy and I don't really fancy the layout and theme too. :D

So, no go Swype for me.

I guess I will just stick to my current dual-keyboards method of inputting English on Swiftkey KB and Handwriting Chinese on Google Pinyin KB. :s22:

Thanks for all the suggestions.:)

I only use Swype for the handwriting input. Also Swype seems to support swiping input more accurately than SwiftKey for me.

<< If you want. Change the 5Ghz to Channel 36 on your router for even better stability. Of cause, If your current channel is good. Then don't bother lah! >>

<< Why not just use Chrome browser. It sync across all devices and your bookmark is organized as it is automatically in real time >>

- notification bar too thin, have to put a clock widget for quick peek of time. I removed the original clock widget (that one which disable the clock in the notification bar whenever it's displayed). Anyone knows where is it? I couldn't find it back.
<< Long press Menu key > Widget . Clock > Choose the one you want >>

My first 米 phone and first time using MIUI too. I'm impressed! :)
