Have been a long time iPhone user and finally got fed up and decided to switch. Am deciding to get the RN5. However, I’ve never used an Android before (yeah, I know I have missed much), so there are a few questions that hopefully I can get some answers before deciding which to get (yeah, I know I can always read through many previous threads/posts but, too much info and yeah, I admit the laziness :p):

1. There are RN5 and RN5 Pro, what is/are the difference? I assume that RN5 Pro is better than RN5, am I right?
2. I’ve always read about rooting on Android, if I were to get the RN5 Pro, what am I supposed to start with to get a “better version” of Android? (I’ve read some posts here stating that the original out-of-the-box China UI is bad, but I have totally no idea where I should start with this rooting process).
3. Very much used to getting all apps from the AppStore previously when I am an iPhone user; so I supposed that on the Android I should be getting all the apps from the Google Play store?

Thanks in advanced.

For rooting (and install roms and everything else), you have to install TWRP (recovery)
https://forum.xda-developers.com/re...ow-to-unlock-bootloader-redmi-note-5-t3757685

reach yusoffb01's earlier post on the unlocking of bootloader. Unlocking is the first step before you can proceed with anything else.

Explore xda forums on how to flash roms if you want.

so in summary, first I have to do unlocking, follow by installing TWFP (recovery), then is to install roms?

yes unlocking bootloader is unique to xiaomi (not sure about other brands but the agenda is to prevent resalers etc to tamper with ur new fone)

once u unlock, install ur bootloader, u can root (via magisk) straightaway after installing TWRP if you dowan to install new roms.

If u wan new roms, still proceed by unlocking, install TWRP, Install Roms (ressurection remix or lineage OS) >> root..

root is def the last step

so far anyone got good screen protector... so far my experience is this..

I got 2 protector from qoo taozi... first is the clear transparent type.. and 2nd one is full coverage white color one...

First type is the best but with slight white border abt 1 to 2mm at the sides.. the 2nd type those full coverage one the screen size is 2mm smaller sides and top/bottom.. real screen size is 137mm x 69mm... the open screen for the protector is 135 x 67mm.. so u sacrify abt 1mm all around the border..:( actually there is abit of black borders all around the true screen abt 0.5mm thus u sacrify actual 0.5mm all sides of true screen.

was looking to get the full coverage black cover

so u mean that the borders (black/white) of the screen protector eats in to the screen real estate? that bad??

RN5 Pro is indian version, comes with worse camera. Local sellers here sell china version which is RN 5 but they call it pro.

Better version would at least be global version of Miui official rom, best version is custom rom, but some things may not work. Difference is just about 600mb ram usage betw custom and miui.

To unlock, you can start to register 2 different miui accounts using 2 hp numbers before you buy phone https://forums.hardwarezone.com.sg/114416618-post1023.html

After you unlock, can install official global rom, and then install twrp custom recovery, then root.
Or you can install twrp custom recovery, then install custom rom, then root.

Absolutely big thanks for the detailed explanations and the links to the guides!!

RN5 Pro is indian version and lousier camera?! How would I be able to differentiate RN5 and RN5 Pro if I intend to buy from Qoo10? Any highly recommended seller? And is Qoo10 the recommended place to get one because I saw few posts back few people talk about Qoo10.

Thanks again.

you won't ever see rn5p here.
1. it's more expensive
2. it's aways out of stock
3. it has older a droid version and significantly worse battery life and main cameras

Same issue with my QC2.0 Aukey charger as well. Keep disconnecting during charging.

So far workaround is to QC my xiaomi powerbank and use it to QC my RN5P

Redmi Note 5 got global ROM already?

Also, price difference 3GB/32GB and 4GB/64GB is about $60. But 3GB ram should be pretty sufficient right?

I did a search on Qoo10 it seems like I am seeing quite a number of rn5p instead of rn5. Is it that those are not legit? On Lazada I found rn5, but stated as export set (china), I take it that since definitely I am going to unlock and root, there's no difference buying export or local right?

I also saw Global version (cheaper than export set). What is Global version by the way??
