So guys, in a nutshell, if I were to buy this RN5 Pro should I go for the white or red box edition (irregardless of price between this two) ?

Xiaomi sexperts recommendation ?

White box - Assumely indian version (with 20MP selfie cam)

Red box 1 - (China Version with 6GB ram) + 13MP selfie cam

Red box 2 - (Global Version with max 4GB ram) + 13MP selfie cam

dun know what talking u. u clearly dont understand the models. there are global 6gb versions.

RN5P is the INDIAN MODEL of RN5 with 20MP sony front sensor and 12mp sony back sensor.
RN5 is the CHINESE model with 13MP OMNIVISION front sensor and 12mp samsung back sensor.

RN5P has better front camera.
RN5 has much better back camera due to dual pixel auto focus AND 1.4 micron sized pixels.

RN5 china AND global are both running android 8.1 on miui 9.5
RN5P india is on android 7.1 with miui 9.

The models you find in singapore are ALL EXPORTED CHINESE SETS. if u dont believe it, check with the sellers.

Actually, I would still prefer the India version for the Global ROM, less hassle and bugs.

why not order a global version? its sold in Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia, Vietnam, Hong Kong.
you can easily find it on Aliexpress.

Is redmi s2 better? Price looks comparable. Camera got AI. Xiaomi 6x has better camera, no headphone jack and card slot.

Note 5 has everything but less capable camera.

So many variants. Hard to choose.

Redmi S2 has a lower resolution display, a 720p panel. :o

Oic. Thanks for the clarifications.

So, for the best deal I should go for the non-indian model (aka RN5) ?

Weird, the indian model is using Sony sensors which assumingly is good sensors. But how come it mentioned it got the much worse camera ?

Have been a long time iPhone user and finally got fed up and decided to switch. Am deciding to get the RN5. However, I’ve never used an Android before (yeah, I know I have missed much), so there are a few questions that hopefully I can get some answers before deciding which to get (yeah, I know I can always read through many previous threads/posts but, too much info and yeah, I admit the laziness :p):

1. There are RN5 and RN5 Pro, what is/are the difference? I assume that RN5 Pro is better than RN5, am I right?
2. I’ve always read about rooting on Android, if I were to get the RN5 Pro, what am I supposed to start with to get a “better version” of Android? (I’ve read some posts here stating that the original out-of-the-box China UI is bad, but I have totally no idea where I should start with this rooting process).
3. Very much used to getting all apps from the AppStore previously when I am an iPhone user; so I supposed that on the Android I should be getting all the apps from the Google Play store?

Thanks in advanced.

Quoted myself. Finally I have bought the RN5 today! The box wrote "Global Version", I checked the setting page it says the MIUI version is MIUI Global 9.5 | Stable 9.5.6.0(OEIMIFA).
So what does this actually mean? Do I still have to go through the unlocking, then recovery then rooting?

First time with an Android phone. Thanks in advanced again!

thats not the rn5p. there also isnt a reason to compare the 2 phones. redmi note 5 china/global wins the s2 in every aspect.

You should still unlock and root it to install gcam to take better photos in low light

OK! Will do that tomorrow! So I supposed my procedure now becomes unlock -> install twrp, that's all? I supposed my Global ROM will still stay and all my installed apps will still stay after this process?

By the way, how do you guys check what is the RAM usage? to use what app?

Also, apps like Security, Mi Drop, Cleaner, Music, Mi Video, etc I couldn't delete/uninstall them. Are they of important use? If not, can they be uninstalled?

put magisk.zip into phone, unlock using 2 accounts trick, then install twrp, then boot into twrp and flash magisk zip which is root.

there is an option somewhere to view free ram when you press recents button. without doing any changes, most likely u have 2gb used ram due to miui and running apps. there are ways to safely disable unnecessary system apps like advertisements and spying which i may write about later.

once you install updates, may need to redo everything again except unlocking. Of course.you dont have to update miui when there are no major changes

There are people selling Redmi Note 5 in Carousell. The photos they post are dual camera version but the spec of the phone stated by them are SD 625 with global ROM. So dual camera version of Redmi note 5 has SD 625 version also?

Dun think so. Given the data by phone arena and GSM arena. Their data have been the most updated and the corrected.

And SD625 with dual cam most likely would be S2 or some other unknown which I have not heard off. Maybe u can post some links so some of us can check if they have is it the true redmi note 5.
