Feels like this is a branch out of the mi series rather than the upgrade of Redmi note series... looks too high end... even higher than mi4

16gb 2299rmb ~500sgd
64gb 2799rmb ~610sgd

backcase non-removal... no microsd / removal battery :(

Exact same spec as current oneplus one but Mi Note price higher...crap. In fact, Mi Note is having lower battery 3000mAh compare to OnePlus one 3100mAh.

I believe the whole intention is that Xiaomi wants to have a flagship phablet series, same as Meizu MX4 Pro, Huawei Ascend Mate series and of course, iPhone 6 Plus.
Redmi Note series is supposed to be a budget phablet series for the mass, so it's likely not going to go for the flagship path.

my two cents. :)

Fine. If you have $700 to spend on a phone, would you buy a xiaomi or a more "mature" brand ?

If you want to buy a chinese flagship model would you buy one that costs $700 or the one with identical specs which costs $450/500 but not xiaomi ?

IMHO, they are really aiming at the wrong target. All this neglecting redmi 1S/Note is really backfiring..

Xiaomi

Xiaomi wants to earn better margin for their products.

Their management wants to get higher dividends.

Yes, IMO, this time round they try to price their devices to be similar as the top brands which could be a failed act since their countries they are targeting now(apart for SG, MY and maybe IN) are those who mostly willing to only spend a few hundreds to get a smartphone. Redmi series are the true ones that helped to pull the brand up and also boost their business.

Maybe they supposed that people will still support them no matter how expensive they are because of the better brand recognition they have now but I believe that sooner or later, the price may dropped too(looks at Mi3) to attract more people to buy it.

With so many product lines to maintain, and buggy software, I don't know how they are going to cope up....

IMO it may still work out for xiaomi considering their primary market is china in the first place. If you compared the hardware specs and pricing to other product in the market I believe it's reasonable to an extend. All in all, I feel that xiaomi produce excellent hardware that are reasonably priced. What stops them from being great is their software, they should be concentrating on polishing MIUI on their own devices.

Polish software? I think we all need to wait long long Liao. Most of companies only concentrate on sales n not focusing on post sales support. Worst when they got market recognition. Stil waiting for the miui 6 for note, going to change to the kimchi note instead liao

I'm also waiting for MIUI 6 for my Redmi Note 4G. My other phone, HTC One M8, also awaiting the Lollipop 5.0 update. This is the problem with Android...

My understanding is that China Redmi phones already got the update. And apparently HTC already rolled out the Lollipop update for unlocked M8 a few days ago. But I've yet to receive it. iOS is still unparalleled in this respect.
