Got it yesterday from Lazada Sony.

Damn the phone does heat up quite easily, and I even haven't bring outdoors for shooting yet.

Display is white and bright, makes my old Xperia 5 display looks yellowish and dull.

Batt life looks promising, haven't tried full day usage yet

Most probably will change to Xperia 5 v next year, with a better processor. Dun think will use 5iv for more than a year

I got the unit on Friday and also felt the heating. However there were many things running in the background then due to the setup/restoring processes. Since Saturday morning till 1pm, I don't feel the high temperature even though I was using the phone continuously for hours setting up my apps. I will give it another few days. However, intense gaming and continuous usage of the camera will almost certainly heat up pretty fast. Let's see how it goes... Fingers crossed.

Wait for a major update it will likely make the phone cool down a lot just like Xperia 1IV.

Also, during initial setup the phone sure will be damm heaty. You are transferring nearly all the applications and accounts over as well as updating many software. Even xperia 1II will heat up.

Looks like better optimization is required for the processor. Hope further updates will make it more efficient with less heat.

will have to see how gen 2 fare in terms of heat management. if use tsmc instead of Samsung chips should be better (so far not much negative news about heat issues with gen 1+).

It is pretty dishearting to always see some inperfections in the current hardware and wait for the next generation one.
And there will likely be a normal and plus versions, no prize for guessing which one will sony take for their flagship phones.

Main point is, sony phones do not necessarily have the best performance in android market (unlike asus with their gaming phone) but are versatile and works surprising well on all that matters.

Agree, I think manufacturer can only try to improve so much but won't solve the issue completely.
I have both the 1 IV and S22+ which uses the same chip and they both can't play games as smooth as my 1 II...:ROFLMAO:

Yeah. We see the common issue with all those newest chip that will have improvement in performance over the last generation but may come with downsides like more battery hungry or heat.
The Xperia 1 I and II seems to be the more tame models with less heat issues, while the III and IV seems to have heat issues, more or less.
I hope sony can come up with a sub-flagship for next year that uses a good chip i.e. dimensity 8100, providing last generation flagship performance while being better and giving a chance to other chips.

the newer 5IV has only 7 people rating? while the older has 55. it's not even statistically significant...

if it's 70 people instead of 7, I'll believe the smaller 5IV has better user evaluation.

the gulf between TSMC and Samsung is huge lol

TSMC is the main reason why PRC had held off any invasion of Taiwan as their own smartphones are still beholden to TSMC. Even Apple has to kowtow to TSMC to make their A processors

Well, TSMC had been going full steam ahead for many years to be arguably global largest semiconductor maker for chips. Sam had some successes but not to the degree of TSMC since they are also dealing with making batteries and camera sensors, not surprising they cannot come close to the dedicated TSMC. The fruit company had the means and requirement to bet their supplies on the largest maker so it seems to the natural selection.

Since PRC is no longer a developing country but a global economy powerhouse, they had to think not just twice but probably still considering almost impossible ways to claim ROC without injuring their own economy. They will have too much to lose than gain if all other major superpowers gang up on them.
And TSMC will most likely self-detonate all their technology secrets once any actual war breaks out.

One key tsmc staff defected to Samsung with his co workers, helped them for a while.

Yes, and China is still reliant on TSMC. They tried to use their own UniSoc chips but the performance is way inferior compared to SD chips by TSMC

He may not have the full know-how on how to do more advanced chips

Hearsay the advanced chip making technique is a Taiwanese state secret that only the President is privy to

Yah but still good enough for entry level smartphones
