Interesting - how did you arrive at estimated lifetime earnings of 1.1m?

I stumbled across this page, which gives an interesting perspective on how to benchmark your networth. Most people I notice, focus too much on Return on Investment, but not on Income and expense.

https://www.getrichslowly.org/net-worth/

In my case, current income is 120k, best case with bonus included. My age is 40, so by the 1st method my networth should be 480k. Well it is actually above 900k, so I am doing very well on this parameter.

Next my lifetime earnings estimated is about 1.1m, so lifetime wealth ratio is 80%

thats why many people are interested in dividend investing. they want to reach the point when passive income > expenses. That's the point at which the wealth ratio really starts to increase.

Millionaire Next Door is clear that both expenses and income are important. A lot of FIRE advocates are going the wrong way by overly focusing on cutting expenses (including giving zero or next to nothing to charity - based on the blogs I've read). Because they are thinking everyday about quitting their job, they don't have the mindset of how to increase income by adding value to the job they are doing.

The person who thinks constantly about quitting their jobs do not have the right attitudes to excel at their jobs or are not enjoying their work. They are least likely to succeed in retiring early. The initial capital to invest for passive income typically comes from one's current job and having the right attitude and aptitude is key to securing promotions and pay increases. Money from investment can only come from having money in the first place. I would suggest that readers focus on their jobs to secure pay increments as fast as possible or switch to a job that he or she is interested in so as to stay motivated. Thinking of getting rich fast from trading and investment is really a fool's errand. For one, no new trader or investor has struck it rich all that early and those few who did, were at best lucky. (One also need a sizeable capital to be able to make that much money) Trading and investment should be consider a full time job itself as in that one needs to hone his skills to excel at it.
There is this adage :" Only 5% succeed in investing and trading while 95% failed" To make it to that 5%, one needs to master the skill of trading.... and within that 5% of those who did, the ratio of consistent winners is very high.

That means the 95% are just gambling - do you have an edge to win consistently at investing / trading in the first place and did you devote time and energy to master your skills? If not, then I can surmise that the 95% are just gambling.

I disagree. One should also start managing and investing money to learn how to cope with losses and drawdown. Not just focusing on work only. If not, if they wait until they are rich, then they will easily get psyche out by Big Boys.

Imagine if you are newbie with 500K with 20% drawdown. You will feel super stressed out due to lack of experience with market crashes.

Bro DW, your cash component include emergency fund?

If it does, that's quite worrying wor... :(

Sent from . using GAGT

Shouldnt be a problem. If he needs he could leverage a bit and raise emergency funds, without selling his stocks.

What platform are you using? Are you selling naked options?

IBKR. Yes cash secured naked puts. But not always, currently it appears volatility is too low and the premium doesn't justify the risk, so I am staying away.
