Guys, this back to the age old dividend investing Vs index investing. We have gone through this many times and these are 2 different schools of thought, let's just respect them both :)

I have frugal fatigue after 50 years old. I started to splurge as I know my money will end up nowhere when I died. I have no qualm taking business class or a luxury cruise. I just have to make sure I don't overspend beyond what I have ..
I m in same boat like u leh...

I asked about the definition of net worth because I was wondering if I can afford to splurge a bit. End of last year, I hit 1mio (+cpf, -HDB) at 41. Low compared to many others here. I'm cruising along around 85K per year (not 10+k per month like the other Uncles here). Recently, I started the habit of taking taxi to work (work to home still MRT) and am feeling somewhat guilty about it. :(
I older than u, around 100k per year, include cpf exclude house, rarely take taxi also dun have 1.2 mil leh... Wonder where i squander my money... 🤔😅

I just calculated the returns for the month.
YTD Investment growth: -1.53%
YTD Networth growth: -0.95%
YTD inflow: 0.58%
Equity ratio: 49.3%
Increase in Equity ratio: 4.21%

So it has been a down month, but I managed to increase my allocation to equities by 4.21%, it was a great month to buy the dip for people who were underallocated like me. Now my allocaiton ratio is nearly 50% and I plan to hit 60% by the end of this year hopefully will get more dips like this to buy.

Happy lunar new year everyone! Gong Xi Fa Cai!

This guy knew the fall was coming, he hedged his portfolio, yet lost money. So it was a bad month.

In Jan, Investment gain is flat (drag down by SGX reit) and networth growth mainly from salary saved and 5k dividend/interest received ..
YTD Investment gain/loss: 0%

If you are flat in Jan, its pretty great performance already

Here's my YTD. Towards the end of the month, VT had a sharp rise so its entirely possible that VT will outperform my portfolio again by the end of the year 😅 This year my focus will be on buying world and USA ETFs.

My ytd -12.8%.
From November high -32%.
Many here still did well ytd.
Ouch! I guess, you must have made really good gains before that? People who had very conservative portfolio were cushioned from the fall, but then we also didn't gain from the pandemic boom.

I just calculated the returns as of Feb 28.
YTD Investment growth: -2.48%
YTD Networth growth: -1.46%
YTD inflow: 1.02%
Equity ratio: 50.81%

So 2 down months in a row, I increased by allocation ratio to equities from 49.3% -> 50.81%

At least your -2.48% return still outperforms VTI. 💲 📈

My IBKR return is not much better. However, I view this as an opportunity for me to build up my holdings of world ETF and S&P500 ETF.

All jsk, my IB in the red 10%… bulk in growth tech counters, after about a year+ though I took profit partially but the pain is still big.

on the other hand, my SCB, CDP, CPF stuff is still relatively green. So for now it’s still ok.

This month should be better atleast the first 2 weeks heading into the Fed meeting. The meeting is in the 3rd week, which also happens to be the monthly option expiry week, typically a down week.

Most markets are providing decent opportunity to make 3-4% at the index level between each short term rally and retreat. One exception being the China/ HK market, which is mostly down.

In the last week of Feb, 13k of gain wipe out from my portfolio. My YTD investment gain is razor thin now and could negative anytime in March. Received enough salary bonus this month to increase my networth. This is probably my last year receiving a bonus from my job. I will not have such cushion if market crash in the future. As a dividend investor, I will be tracking my Dividend/Interest closely as it will become my main source of income after I leave my job.

YTD Investment gain/loss: 1.16%
YTD Networth growth: 1.84%
YTD Dividend/Interest received $10,747
