Was considering between Apex 15X $2545 (i7 10870, RTX 3060, 16gb ram, 1TB SSD) and Alienware M15 R4 $3649 (i7 10870, RTX3060, 16gb ram, 1TB SSD) to replace my 5 yr old Razer Blade 15.

If taking AS, is it better to upgrade to the 3 yrs parts warranty?

My razer serve me well over 5 yrs, just that the battery became bloated on the 2nd yr.

Is it recommended to top up to get the Alienware?

Thanks alot.

If you plan to hang on to your laptop for 3 years, then I think it's worthwhile to get the extended warranty.

Currently using an Aftershock Apex 15X purchased last year and extended my warranty and also opted for onsite pickup and return, which has already saved me once.

Don't think the premium on the Dell is worth it, and I don't have a good impression of their customer service. If you're looking for an alternative brand, maybe can consider the Lenovo Legion 5 Pro, the price seems comparable to the Apex 15X series, though I have no experience with Lenovo's customer service either.

Still using a June 2014 AS XG15V3 daily.
I7-4710MQ, 24GB ram, GTX860M 2GB

Sent it in last year for general cleaning. Daily temps can hit up to 98degrees, but hack it...its old.

I am using Apex 15 Lite and temperature goes to 95 when gaming.
Heard about using Throttlestop but the gaming center that comes with the laptop, do I need to uninstall it as i think it probably might also meddle with the CPU seeing the different profile it has actually change my cpu speed. But it also enable the OSD, i.e showing caps lock, num lock.
Anyone got advice if i should do away with gaming center?

If you want to better managed the temp better, remove your laptop base cover and use it on a simple laptop stand with cooler/ fan. This will easily bring down 2-5 degrees.

If your laptop CPU/ GPU is hitting 95 degrees under load, I don't recommend using Throttlestop. While it is good for performance, the reason the system throttle is to avoid damaging the components when it hits a certain threshold.

The Lunar 15 Max looks nice. No dedicated graphics but a nice big screen thin and light for work.

Does AS laptop still come with a detachable battery ? worthy a consideration b'cos battery will die first after a few yrs.
Sorry have not logged in for a while. The slim format of the notebooks made it impossible to have detachable battery. Not on the model I have.

Prime 15 i7 7700 HQ + GTX1060

First year - 2017 - BSOD keep happening, can't reproduce when at AS, found out it's the memory that's having issue (is it Crucial memory that AS using?)
First year - found casing creak to the left of the motherboard, AS said chasis design nothing can be done
Second year - BSOD continued happening, the rest pretty normal
Third year - 1 month after Warranty - Found out some keys not working - went to AS, quoted replacement keyboard at $99 (Can't really remember TBH) - decided to not replace
Fourth year - more keys went dead, found out pressing the area slightly below spacebar helps with the key recognizing
Fourth year - found out that the chasis deformed, decided to open it up, found bloated battery (always used on charger and charger only, running on battery < 20 times
Fourth year - fan started giving some noise sometimes, opened up found out 1 GPU fan not turning freely already, went down to AS asking for a service, was informed need to wait 3-5 days for the service (due to exponential growth of number of customers, compared to instant 1-2 hours on the spot service few years earlier) - decided not to wait, was busy at that time too
Fourth year - finally did a memory diagnostic after numerous BSOD finding out that it's the memory that's causing the BSOD all this while - replaced 1x 8GB DDR4 SODIMM, BSOD went away
End of Fourth year (this year) - HDD starting showing sign of aging and making sound - was working alright then suddenly stopped transferring files - still able to see file list but hardly getting any files copied - read head issue likely
Into Fifth year - the GPU fan stopped working properly suddenly giving super loud noise one day, can't even game a bit it will start making that screeching sound once temp > 70c.

My experience with Aftershock.

One good thing though, when I asked AS about the price of getting the GPU fan repaired, they asked to send it in for a Free Service. Will I get a free fan replacement? Fingers-crossed.

TL;DR

I will go back to a main brand laptop if I ever decide to change my Prime 15. Its performance is still more than capable for my usage but all the build/quality issues made it a let down for me. 50:50 for their service, got good and bad.

Based on what you typed, aftershock had already been damn nice Liao. I’ve no idea what’s the complain.

Go back then to your mainstream brands, and see what happens after the first couple of years even if you still have warranty.

As I said there's good and bad. I have to say I expected better product quality though. Besides that, I decided to get AS previously due to good reputation on the service. Understand that it's still offering the service but due to increased demand they are not at the same level as many years back. Anyway, it's just a sharing of experience. Hope that they've gotten better OEM models. I may be unlucky in getting this model too. The Clevo model for Prism 15 has the same problems with keyboard and fan all over in other forums too.

at some point this OEM selling not sustainable la.. this not selling any other stuff in sg. oem problem end up become your brand problem.
dont even have custom bios/software with diagnostics put in place to easily reduce half the support enquires over phone.
they need more control in their products. cant do it at hardware level.. at least achieve it at software level..

if they like normal brand provide like onsite warranty for all their product their technician will whole day long just be settling the same problems for these specific oem models. but at least aft warranty they still entertain u

Many keys not registering. I found a trick to press around spacebar area will make it register, just press that area those keys can type as usual. My guess ah... The battery went bloated and somehow pressed against the keyboard, may have caused the ribbon to damage and eventually causing bad contact/not registering strokes. The trick still work right now if I need to use the keyboard but most of the time I'm running on external keyboard already since the laptop is now basically a desktop with the battery taken out.
