it will still be weak as the signal has to pass through 2 walls, but slightly better than your existing setup.

I have 2 queries i need advice on :

1. Current subscriber of M1 fibre lower speed plan and would like to switch plan to those 5gbps ones, but M1's fibre broadband check indicates 'Your location isn't ready yet - Unfortunately, upgrades in your area are still in progress. In the meantime, we recommend taking our 2.5Gbps or 1Gbps plans.'(https://shop.m1.com.sg/fbb/coverage-check?coStatusCheck=true). However, NetLink Trust's own website check just indicates my unit is Fibre ready with no mention of whether its eligible for those high speed ones (https://rollout.netlinktrust.com/).

So where can I confirm the high speed availability or upgrade schedule?

2. Separately, I would also like to move my disable/move current Fibre termination point/ONT point in bedroom to living room, must I get NetLink contractor to do it at ~200? Better to do before I change my plan or the 2 events don't affect each other in terms of activation/deactivation costs?

1) M1 is the one to check for the availability for M1's XGS-PON based 3Gbps/6Gbps/10Gbps plans. NLT has been ready for 10Gbps Fibre internet many years ago. Now it is for the ISPs like M1 to upgrade their equipment (eg: ONT/OLT/etc) to support XGS-PON based Fibre Internet Plans (3Gbps/5Gbps/6Gbps/10Gbps plans). M1 is the last consumer ISPs to make XGS-PON based plans available across all the regions.

2) If you are worried about future support from NLT -- use NLT contractors. But it seems to me others have done that (probably with a bit of risks). The two events should be independant. Not an expert in this topic, hopefully others can chime in to provide their views as well.

Thank you for the superfast reply. Networking n00b here, but i thought the ONT points are installed by NLT so if they are ready for 10Gbps means ok?
Does the current bottleneck lie with M1? I thought they only provides the modem.
Meaning if i choose Singtel/Starhub, they may be able to support? I checked both their websites but they only say check against NLT coverage link, no special mention of 'high speed' check like M1

The fibre network is the same as before which have been ready for many years. It's the other end of the fibre which need to connect to m1 server and they are not ready. M1 is simply not ready to provide such high speed service, purely up to m1 decision.

M1 hasn't upgraded their backend equipment to handle bandwidth requirements of large number of XGSPON plan subscribers.

For my home, existing subscribers can upgrade to XGSPON, but not new subscribers...

ONT or ONR is by ISP and not NLT.

Yes other ISPs will support. M1 is the only exception now.

you guys' reply speed also 5Gbps  thank u thank u
if the issue lies with M1 only, i'll likely jump to singtel then, was looking between these 3 plans, which you guys recommend is more value for money?

5Gbps Enhanced Plan @ $49.90
  • 1 unit of Singtel XGS-PON Optical Network Router
  • 1 unit of Linksys E9450 AX5400 WiFi 6 Router
5Gbps Enhanced Mesh @ $55.09
  • 1 unit of Singtel XGS-PON Optical Network Router
  • 1 unit of Singtel AX5400 WiFi 6 Mesh Device
  • 1 unit of Singtel AX5400 WiFi 6 Mesh Extender
5Gbps Pro Gamer @ $58.90
  • 1 unit of Singtel XGS-PON Optical Network Router
  • 1 unit of ASUS RT-AX86U WiFi 6 gaming router (300+)

I did not compare the other 'freebies' cause I don't use them, nor do I play games regularly. Only require sufficient wifi coverage for 4-room flat, may have to pass 2-3 walls though. Not connecting any direct LAN and thought the RT-AX86U router seem good i'm not using any other extender/mesh.

I'm assuming the Singtel-branded Wifi 6 routers & mesh will be given to me whilst ONR have to return but I want to keep the option of switching ISP after 24-mth contract so not sure whether the Singtel router can be used with other ISP in future anot.

Aside, anyone knows if the prices include GST coz I want to keep my plan below $60.

Why not get the Starhub 5gbps plan at $29.55/mth?

I do not recommend Singtel but you can read the Singapore ISP comparison thread to come to your own conclusion. Just read the first page will do.
https://forums.hardwarezone.com.sg/threads/singapore-isp-comparisons.6665380/

Singtel ONR has no wireless function and SIngtel provided AX5400 WiFi router or mesh solution are very lousy (capable of 1Gbps only). If you do not have LAN ports at home, they will work very badly as they are low end dual band mesh solution.

You do not need to return the wireless router or mesh upon termination. But you do not want to keep using the Singtel provided AX5400 router/mesh anyway, they are just lousy. They do not work as main router with other ISP's ONT because of the built-in VLAN. They may work as AP though.

Singtel XGS-PON ONR: no wireless function
Singtel dual band AX5400 router and mesh node -- all with 1G WAN port so limited to 1Gbps, all are lousy. The mesh is a very bad mesh solution if you need to use wireless backhaul.

thanks for the recommendations, went to read both your recent comments in your recommended threads but my knowledge could only comprehend a bit (you guys are too advanced!) Based on feedback, seems like its either (new user to these ISPs)
  • ONR with Singtel 5Gbps Pro Gamer @ $58.90 (with ASUS RT-AX86U WiFi 6 router)
  • ONR with Singtel 5Gbps Enhanced (WiFi 7) @ $55.90 (with TP-Link BE22000 WiFi 7 Router)
  • ONT with Starhub 5Gbps @ $48.92 (with WiFi 7 TP-Link HB710 router).

Can using a single router with above options provide sufficient WiFi coverage for all bedrooms in this 4-rm layout? Be it Current / Future router location:

Prefer simpler option even if have to pay slightly more rather than spend much time troubleshooting since im no expert in this area.

I just upgraded my M1 500mbps plan to 6Gbps plan.

Currently, M1 website will still show that my area is not ready for XGS PON plan. Like others had mentioned, M1 allows their existing customer to upgrade (if ready) and not for new subscriber.

My suggestion is go to M1 website, select the XGS PON plan and click on existing to recontract. U need your M1 ID to login and if your area is already ready, M1 will allow us to upgrade.

My M1 6Gbps plan after selling off the Asus BT10 mesh (in a pair), my 2 yrs plan will cost only ard $26+++ per month vs my 500Mbps will cost $30+ per month.

For me I don't need the BT10 mesh as I had my own Omada router, switches and APs...

Nice, so you are able to sell two units of Asus ZenWiFi BT10 at S$800 (or a bit more). Nice to hear that.

There are a few people in this thread who are worried to get lower offering for Asus ZenWiFi BT10 that expected (say two units at S$800 or one unit at S$400).

I tend to think the price may drop in the future, but right now it should be okay. After all, the list price from Asus is at S$1299 for two units and S$699 for single unit.

M1 6Gbps at S$59.90 per month with two ZenWiFi BT10.
Selling two units and get back S$800 --> effective no-frills 6Gbps plan is at S$26.56 per month.
Selling two units and get back S$720 (if price drop in the future) --> effective no-frills 6Gbps plan is at S$29.90 per month.

Both are still not bad offer compared to Starhub 5Gbps special offer at S$29.55 per month (ONT option). Take note Starhub digital voice is not free at S$2.14 per month.

Thanks for suggestion but my existing contract with M1 already ended, so they classify me as existing customer with no contract hence still subjected to the 'Area not ready' restriction. I'd prefer to stick to m1 actually, less hassle. Congrats on your good deal!

Hence, i'm sort of shoved to either Starhub/Singtel now. Currently more inclined to Singtel 5Gbps with TP-Link BE22000 WiFi 7 Router since at least the router is decent
if anyone has any more comments, please do share :)

My contract also just ended yesterday, and I am able to recontract to XGSPON plan without restrictions ...

As mentioned, you need to understand what you're getting into with Singtel. Singtel issues ONR and all routing functionality will be done on that ONR, which is underwhelming. Your expensive Deco mesh system will be relegated to being dumb access points.

Which is why most are not recommending Singtel right now.
