1) Yes, the wireless speed and wired device connected to the Singtel AX5400 device will be below 1Gbps as the WAN/LAN ports are only 1Gbps.

2) Singtel ONR itself is the main router of your home network. It has one 10G LAN port, so you do not need to get extra router if you have a wired device with 5Gbe or 10Gbe network adapter.
https://forums.hardwarezone.com.sg/threads/5gbe-and-beyond-ethernet-adapters.7068236

3) For wireless, it is in general not possible to hit above 5Gbps. Usually you get less than 3Gbps at 3m distancde, even if you have a very good WiFi 7 router. Singtel provides two routers if you plan to get from Singtel.

a) HB810 --> 10G capble, WiFi 7 BE22000, at S$16.80 x 24 month = S$403.20.

https://www.tp-link.com/sg/service-provider/wifi-router/hb810/
https://www.singtel.com/personal/support/broadband/routers-ont/TPLink-HB810-WIFI7

b) HB611-SGST --> 2.5G capable, WiFi 7 BE11000 (lucky ones may get this for free).

https://www.singtel.com/personal/support/broadband/routers-ont/singtel-wifi-7-router-hb611-sgst

4) You can also buy your own WiFi 7 router as well. I got one TP-Link Archer BE805 from an M1 user at S$300 recently.
https://forums.hardwarezone.com.sg/...-7-routers-without-6ghz-band-support.6905228/

Just did a check, seems like i am still using the legacy ONT from Singtel. Nokia G-240G-E.

2) The 10G Lan port would suit my needs for my wired device but not for the wireless devices. Unless i convert my wired device to wireless as well, and just hook up a modem to the 10G port on the ONR.

3) Yup i am aware that i will not hit anywhere near 5GBps and i am not expecting that, but i would at least like to have hardware that supports 5gbps, and not be hardware limited.

4) Yup seems like that is the only option, to get a 10gbps/5gbps router.

In light of needing to get a new router anyway, and i am thinking to just get a 10gbps one instead of an older model, what are your thoughts on going Simba 10gbps for the same price?

Two comments.
1) Nokia G240-E is an ONR, not an ONT. But that does not matter much for your other questions.

2) I do not think SIMBA 10Gbps (or WC 10Gbps) is worth considering now that M1 6Gbps and Starhub 5Gbps are of much better value.

I will recommend M1 6Gbps new user promotion now with free Archer BE805 (10G capable WiFi 7 router), that is the best deal as of now at S$34.90 per month. SIMBA 10G bps plan + a 10G capable WiFi 7 router will cost higher (eg: SIMBA offers Amazon eero Max 7 at S$399).

Take note the max speed for 10gbps plan is at about 8.2x Gbps due to XGS-PON technology limit, for all the ISPs' 10Gbps plan.

You can also top-up for a pair of Asus ZenWiFi BT10 if you need a mesh solution. The resale value is higher than Archer BE805 if you want to sell one node to offset the per month subscription price.

3) I may be biased towards M1/Starhub and against SIMBA/WC. But you can always read the sticky thread on top of this forum by yourself and see which to go with. It is good to have comptitions though and SIMBA/WC are the ones who forced Singtel/M1/Starhub to come out with cheaper plans.

Thanks for the suggestion bro! Will look at M1. One reason why I didnt consider M1 was that i had a very bad customer experience back then with them with regards to billing and swore off their service. But its been 20 years, maybe time to reevaluate their existence haha.

Hi xiaofan, thanks for your reply. Yes, I had clicked on this link from my Singtel acct page to re-contract that day, with 2x free Wifi 7 BE11000 and those 12 months freebies ($77 per month

10Gbps Mesh (WiFi 7) + Entertainment Bundle

) but alas, they rejected me. Ok, I will have to try the re-contract link $29 later. Currentlly, I'm using own GT-AX6000 router -> Dlink gigabit switch without any special functions except for Singtel TV. I have already been out of contract since last November.

Thanks for the updates. I understand SingTel mentions the Entertainment Bundle plans are for new users. So indeed they have the right to reject you.

For the S$29.90 per month SingTel 5Gbps recontract offer, it is clearly mentioned to be a recontract offer for existing users who have finished 21 months of contract. I expect your order to go through for the offer.

But in that case, you need to negotiate with SingTel for the SingTel TV offer. I suggest you to go to Singtel Shop TV counter and check what kind of offer they can give you, based on my past experiences. I cancelled my SingTel TV last October so I no longer really follow the SingTel TV offer myself. Last time I was able to get 50% OFF offer for my SingTel Family Favorite Pack with free basic SingTel TV box rental.

4. BTW, if you are lucky, you may get a better wireless router -- Singtel HB611-SGST as per two reports in this forum. Let Singtel install it for you. Most likely it is like this.
Singtel ONR (wired router) 10G LAN port --> Singtel HB611-SGST in AP mode (if you are lucky)
Please note even they give u HB611, if u still on windows 10, the 6ghz wifi network will not be broadcasted for you to connect. I am using the wifi 6e network card but windows 10, old MB with no TPM 2.0, so cannot upgrade to windows 11. I googled, some said windows 10 can work, have to use back older network firmware, tried and also other suggestions, all cannot, so I guess only on windows 11 then you are able to see the 6ghz network appear. For me, it means I have to upgrade my PC then can connect to 6ghz network...

Say the HB611 is connected to 10G lan port of the ZTE ONR, will I be able to get more than 1000mbps speed on the 2.4/5ghz network or must be 6ghz then can get? I am now only getting 600+mbps, even worst than my previous 1Gpbs plan, when I can easily get 700-800+ mbps speed...

You should just focus on 5GHz band first to see if you can achieve higher than 1Gbps. By right you should be able to get that if you enable 160MHz channel bandwidth on the router and your wireless client support 160MHz channel bandwidth on the 5GHz band.

Sorry but no idea about Windows 10. It is a dying OS anyway.

My two S$150 Intel N100 Chuwi Herobox (8GB/256GB) mini PCs actually support Windows 11 24H2 without problems even though I prefer to use Linux on such low end PCs.

The 5ghz setting of the HB611 router can enable up to 80mhz only whereas the 6ghz network can set 160mhz, is that something wrong?

Hmm, that does not match the spec published by TP-Link. You may want to post the screenshot. If you still cannnot get it to work, call Singtel 1688 for support.

Make sure you update the FW version to the latest version as well.

11 Gbps Tri-Band WiFi 7: 6-stream tri-band WiFi 7
Signal Rate: BE11000,
6 GHz: Up to 5760 Mbps (EHT320)

saw 2 cases of members getting HB611 instead of ax5400 for the 5Gbps recontract.. is there any way to kinda check which router before I confirm the new contract? the link still mentioning ax5400.

I just don't want to fill up my details via the link only for the contract being sent to me is ax5400 and I have no way to back off from the deal. I still have 2 weeks to decide (contact expiring mar 2025)

Strange, just now saw the 160mhz appears for a while, after I set it and saved, it went back to 80mhz when I reopened the setting. Anyway I read online 80mhz is the 'correct' bandwidth for 5ghz network...

Need advises from those using HB611 here, what are your settings and speed?

Only way is you have a black and white confirmation (eg conversation with SingTel CSO) that they will give the HB611. Or as in my case, HB611 is written in the contract agreement.

Singtel refuses to honour their contract for wifi7 (stated in black and white) and insist that the plan comes with WIFI6 router for me. I have to accept their error and take wifi6. Hence, cstanhwz is the lucky one that got what is stated per contract.

That's a breach of contract on their end.

SingTel just claim it is their system error. From their response they make it sounds like either you take it or leave it. This is what i think: You can reject the WIFI6 router but that also mean they won't complete the installation as they won't give you an appointment date (because I waited 1 week and singtel never come back on the new appointment date after I reject their WIFI6 router they brought for installation earlier). They just drag the matter loh till you either drop it or accept it. If I didn't contact them, i doubt they would even call me to make a new installation appointment.

They then say if I am agreeable to take the WIFI6 they will proceed to make the appointment for installation. Not much choice.

Then I should get the same WIFI6 router too and they tell me system error too right?

Think they trying to pull a fast one on you.

If you do not wish to fight for it, it is fine too.

SingTel gets away with their "mistake" and "profit" lor.

That is because they bring you the WIFI7 router in the first place for installation. Of course no problem. What is done cannot be undone, even if it is the so call system error.

My case is that although contract specifies WIFI7, they still decide to bring me WIFI6 router instead. I have already went through one round of reasoning with them there and then but they keep insisting that WIFI6 is the correct router. After I reject their installation because of the incorrect router based on contract, I waited for a week plus they didn't bother to contact me, leaving me hanging with my old plan. Despite reasoning with them again when I called them up for follow up, their response strongly suggested that I can either take it as it is or stay on my old plan, there is no other option offered.

It would be interesting to see what others would get from their "system error".
