Hi anyone facing the same problem as me .... can't access itunes stores on my macbook pro..... someone said try to delete a file from itunes under preference but the file is not there at all. tried resetting the keys as stated on apple website din work too:(

maybe u should download & install the latest copy of itunes, set-up your account and try. that's what i do when hiccups like this occurs.

cannot copy files on desktop to ext hdd

error message
------

The Finder can’t complete the operation because some data in “School” can’t be read or written.
(Error code -36)

Anyone?

r u using windows-formatted ext. hdd? if yes, u need to install NTFS-3G/MacFuse. or just format the hdd to mac if you haven't done so, provided that you do not intend use the hdd with windows machines.

Need some help here.. Cant seem to figure out how to solve the following:

1. Can you guys access external HDD in windows using virtualbox? There is no way i can access to my WD external HDD though i managed to access my thumbdrive when i plug in.

2. Tried to detect another external HDD in MAC but failed. totally unable to read at all. It keeps asking me to install some driver. MAC can see the seagate HDD but i was unable to access or read the files on it.

3. Where to put the files you wish to share between the windows platform and mac platform?

Assistance appreciated! =:p

am a new macbook user and have placed an order for a refurbished 13" macbook pro.

I would like to find out if I want to change my hdd (from the original 5400rpm to a 7200rpm) and ram(2x1GB to 2x2GB)...can i not remove the OS-X from the original 5400rpm hdd and install a new one w the same serial number on the 7200rpm?

are there any warranty implications on the above 2 changes?

thanks alot for any advice given

In summary you can purchase a new hdd, connect to your new macbook, format it and transfer all the files, programs etc. etc. (duplicate it) to the new hdd. You then install the new hdd into your macbook.

In more detail:

After you had formated your new hdd, you need to install the OSX into this new hdd.

After you had installed the OSX into the new hdd, you need to reboot using the new hdd, you can do so by holding the Alt key while pressing the power button to power up. You can choose to power up using the usb connected new hdd. It will go through the setup process for your new hdd and you will select to 'transfer' all data from your old hdd to the new hdd.

When the transfer is done you have on the new hdd the exact replica of what you have on your old hdd.

You then replace the old hdd in your macbook with the new hdd.

In fact the ability to 'trasfer' the entire data/program from old to new hdd is one of the most wonderful thing I find in using a Mac. In Windows you have to reinstall all the programs, files back to the new hdd. Unless that has changed!

Happy swapping

Mac can read FAT file format but not NTFS format. So you ext hdd may be formated in Windows using NTFS. Conversely your hdd may be formated in mac and as such your Virtual windows is not able to read it.

There is an application that will allow your mac to read NTSF file formats in OSX. I cannot recall the app but you can search in HWZ forum pages and find it. I remember reading you need to 2 files NTFS-3G and Macfuse. Goggle for it.

I'm not sure if you need to put back the old hdd when you send back for servicing. I doubt you need to remove the new hdd as it is normal for user to upgrade the hdd.

Perhaps some good people here who has send back their mac with a self-upgrade hdd can shed some light on this?

May I suggest that you find out what is various formats of your ext. harddisk and from there you can load in the various applications to ensure that your various type of format hdd can be read across the 2 OS platforms.

I'm using the latest parallels but I feel the previous version is better. I'm using Win 7 64bit.

I noticed that Parallel with Win 7 64bit is not stable and the Task Bar in the windows also cannot be lock!

It also has problem starting up again the next time even thought there don't seem to be any problem with the shut down in the previous time.

Haven't try VMware thought.

I also had bootcamp running Win XP on another mac. Problem is that when you need to install more software, you may find that you did not allocate enough hdd space! In Parallel you can choose to use 'auto expanding hdd space' thought.

That is why I choose Parallel. I'm just sharing my experience. Like I say perhaps Win 7 32bit may perform better!

I'm using Seagate 640GB. At that point of time 640G, 7200rpm is only available from Seagate.

i'm using iklear. wont go wrong with that.

I just got myself the iklear cleaning kit from apple store too. But the thing is i have no idea which cloth to use on my mbp glossy screen and my LCD tv.

There are 3 different types of cloth in the kit, the lighter blue micro-chamois, the darker blue micro-terry and grey micro-fiber cloth. Anybody has any idea which cloth does what? Thanks in advance!
