How do u know minority?

Because if Google knows the users are mostly hardcore gamers, they would have understood the needs of these gamers. Just pack the phone with more RAM.

Obviously, hardcore gaming is not what the Pixel is intended to be.

So far I've cycled through the apps on the Pixel 3 XL: Chrome (with my webpage), Facebook, Hangouts, WhatsApp, Drive, Photos, Maps, YouTube, and Play store. None of the apps close/reload. Average memory 2.3 GB in the last 3 hours.

Not saying there won't be app reloads. But just use and enjoy the phone, I don't think there'd issues that will encumber normal usage.

Do you have the adaptive battery setting disabled? That may be the difference.

To me ah, doesn't hurt to have a bit more RAM for future proofing sake.

Yeah.

One day in future, iPhone XXX will use 10 GB RAM and Huaweii PYYY will use 128 GB of RAM. :s13:

You see the huge disparity? You don't see the problem?

the idea is basic functionality... we are talking about casual gaming on a flagship priced phone here... it should at least function like what majority flagship are performing.. not like need to monitor how many games or apps are using alot of RAM and we need to close them first to not have the reloading issue.

If things don't change for Android, I still believe the iPhone with 10gb RAM will still perform better. :s13:

There are mixed reports of RAM management so far.

Seeing how the Pixel 2 XL with the same amount of RAM has no such issues, it seems that the RAM management issue on Pixel 3s, if indeed there is any, can be rectified via software update. And if it's a hardware issue, there's always the local warranty and service centre to go to this time round.

I personally will still be getting a Pixel 3... Just haven't really decided between the XL and the non-XL.

Hahaha love the one-handed typing on the non-XL though I rarely type using one hand..... But in those rare scenarios where I do need to type with one hand, I can see how the size of a non-XL would be a godsend.

On the other hand, the bigger screen and battery on the XL are just too irresistible.

Yeah, got quite a few other flagship phones with 4GB RAM but don't have those issues also. Some also mentioned it could be over aggressive adaptive battery optimisation mode. Better when they turn it off. Still concerned about the display though on the small Pixel 3. Doesn't seem as bad as the Pixel 2XL, but it's really like lottery.

Gaming + switching between browser and YouTube is called casual gaming?

If the game is too difficult that you need to get hints and hacks, then this is not typical of a casual gamer.

I guess that's why Google is developing Fuschia.

I think Google managed to fix the lag issues over the years but they certainly wouldn't want to continue developing an OS that requires more and more RAM than an iOS.

yea just trying to mean at least multi tasking should work like what is intended compared to other flagships.. no matter whether is for casual gamer, hardcore gamer or general user. there should not a restricted way of usage due to different habits of users.

Adaptive battery is enabled. I cycled through all the apps continuously, so maybe it didn't give the OS a chance to consider that my apps are "infrequently used" :)

I guess whether apps are considered "infrequently used" should be based on data collected on usage patterns over a period of time, and not momentarily switches.

In any case, its weird that the problem only affects some of the users.

the google pixel RAM-gate thing is nothing new

ask any P20 (huawei) owner they have plenty of stories to share of what its like to have a hyper aggressive phone that is hellbent on saving RAM and battery at any cost, not just rapid closure of 3rd party background apps even things like calendar/weather widget cant update cos of background processes being force-killed...

Anyone else disappointed with the under-delivered Top Shot feature? I was hoping to grab better shots of my toddler on the move, but it looks like the extracted frames are of a lower resolution (3 MP).

https://9to5google.com/2018/10/18/pixel-3-top-shot-photo-resolution/

if you want to sell a new feature, but the feature comes with some caveat (lower res), of course to make your product seem nicer you will conveniently omit to mention said caveat... FYI this is nothing new. The lens blur feature on nexus phones also output lower res, but it has never been advertised or disclaimer'ed by google that the resolution is less, people found out the hard way.

same logic why they didnt mention 4k 60fps... because it doesnt exist on the pixels

at the moment to me the pixel 3 camera has stagnated and failed to improve hardware wise compared to pixel 2. With HDR+ already as good as it gets on software side, the 'impression' of new innovation comes from software gimmicks (top shot, night sight, etc) that are probably going to be as hit-or-miss as portrait mode's edge detection.

his impression is that play a game half way if browse web = search guide/hints/hack on the game.

it IS causal gaming when u play a game and decided to take a break, browse forums, read news and watch some videos. :s22:

pretty sure many ppl does that. like that everyone is hardcore gamers liao.

anyway no point explaining further, have to test the actual phone and see how good the ram management is.

I tested my game with Xiaomi Pocophone F1, 6gb Ram variant.

However, is facing the same problem. Game will reload after a few apps switch.
