2018 Macbook Pros launched

It’s very tempting but my current one still going strong and it’s also the last model with the main ports and illuminated Apple logo.

Really hope Apple will bring back the illuminated logo. The TB is very nice as I’ve personally tried it out, but guess won’t be upgrading anytime soon.

We have similar model. Planning to keep it as long as it is working. My previous one lasts (yes, still alive) for more than 10 years.

My first MBP (2010) finally gave up after 5 years due to HDD and GPU failure, in a sense that for quite some time, switching graphics will cause the whole unit to self-reboot.

For 2 weeks I didn't have any MBP to use as have to wait for the mid 2015 model to release, hence I reserved mine at Nubox NEX immediately once they have it.

I can feel the enthusiasm of getting a new MBP, just that a lot of money will be spent on every purchase.

Till then, my mid 2015 15" rMBP is still my workhorse!

Seems like i9’s generating a bit too much heat. Those MBP’s with the i9 needed to be water-cooled.

In the same boat as you bro. My 2010 15” mbp graphics died on me as well. Terrible design in the sense where one graphic card dies but the system won’t be able to boot unless gotta do some workarounds.

Now on a 2015 15”, praying I won’t get any issues. Every time walk pass those Apple shops will sibei gian the new ones cos of its display!

Your MBP still looks good and if it still working fine, you should continue using it.

Your MBP still looks good and if it still working fine, you should continue using it.

Yes I’d definitely still continue to use it as usually I don’t get a new one unless the old one is giving problems. It’s not cheap, hence needed to use it until the end of its life before getting a new one, then use it for years again.

3 years and counting, hopefully at least another 2 years more.

Got the 256GB Rose Gold WiFi model haha. After using the iPad for so long, looking at the normal displays can feel the difference, like you’ll see the perceived ‘lag’.

Probably by the time I upgrade it would be OLED displays! And it would mean forking another 4k or so again for another MacBook.

Help me decide!

This is my first time buying into the apple ecosystem after buying an ipad pro 3 months back. Reason for getting an MBP is because of uni.

I am mainly a business student but i love to do photo editing (LR maybe switching to capture one pro, still learning PS) as a hobby. May or may not be going into video (FCPX).

Have the following options available to me.

1) 13" MBP TB: i5 quad core, 16gb ram, 512gb, + applecare: $3,258 (free beats solo 3)

2) 13" MBP TB: i7 quad core, 16gb ram, 256gb, + applecare: $3,346 (free beats solo 3)

3) 15" MBP TB base model, from uni roadshow: i7 6 core, 16gb ram, 256gb, + applecare: $3,326 (nothing free)

4) 15" MBP TB 2017 refurbished: i7 4 core, 16gb ram, 256gb, + apple care: $3,159

Haha almost the same too! I upgraded from the mini 4 and performance is world's apart.

Coming back to the MBP, if Apple were ever to introduce OLED to MBPs, I'd buy it definitely, but as you said $4k or so is very possible. OLED will be stunning on MBP, just like the iPhone X. But I suppose before that, iPads should have OLED first.
