i doubt govt will push for more than 10g in residential since all bto house only have CAT 6 LAN pre-installed..unless future BTO start having CAT 8 or SFP ports pre-installed :)

That is thing.

I tend to believe next version of IMDA COPIF will mandate Fibre connection along with CAT6A cable for multi-storey residential buildings (including HDB BTO flat). Current version is COPIF 2018. My guess is that next version will be around 2028.

That being said, if you have CAT6 Ethernet cable in place, no need to worry too much as 10Gbe networking will be useful for more than 10 years.

FTTR service may be the main stream post 10Gbps, and then ISPs will offer paid Fibre installation service if you go with the higher tier plan. More contractors will also be able to lay Fibre cables then. No need to worry too much about the lack of Fibre cables now. And no point to go with laying CAT8 cable at all.

WL-NWU340G Rev. A. For your issue, have you tried it with any other windows laptop etc? What do you mean by instability? For me, after system bootup, it takes about 1-2 seconds to initialise and then i am connected to LAN.

Not sure if it'll help but i'm running 13900k/ MSI Z790i Edge desktop, as well as 7840HS Lenovo Slim 7 laptop. Both works fine.

I am using Beelink Ser7 (AMD7840HS). Plugged the wavlink WL-NWU340G (A) into the USB4 port and getting only 1Gbps for download and 4.3Gbps for upload. Installed the driver downloaded from Wavlink and restarted the pc. Result is the same. The generic lan port on this mini pc is 2.5Gbps and I got about 2.3Gbps.

Will try another laptop to see if it makes another difference. Hiaz...

I just got the XikiStore USB4/TB4/TB3 to 10G RJ45 NIC (Marvell AQC107 chipset), model SKN-T310GT.

Their own video says that it has a fan and some users may not like it. Indeed I will say I do not like it as the fan noise is quite audible.

NOT recommended because of the fan noise.

I am not so sure why they need to put a fan. It is actually taller than my other two USB4/TB4/TB3 10G NIC from IOCrest and GRiS (these two have the same size and no fan). The good thing about XikeStor is that the 10Gbe RJ45 port is in the other side of the adapter. IOcrest/GRiS version have the 10Gbe RJ45 port next to the USB 4 port.

The build quality and packaging are actually better than IOcrest and GRiS, if I just look from the outside (not going to tear down).

SpeedTest with my Acer Swift 3 early 2021 laptop (Intel Core i5-1135G7 CPU, 16GB/512GB, latest Windows 24H2), Singtel 5Gbps plan

IOcrest version SpeedTest result using the same laptop (Intel 11th gen laptop CPU based laptop is the first gen laptop to natively support USB 4/TB4 under Windows 10/11).

Wavelink USB Type C to 5Gbe adapter test result with the same Acer Swift laptop. As mentioned earlier, I can get better results with the faster laptop (Intel Core Ultra 5 125H based Acer Swift 14 GO OLED version).

Does the fan helps by keeping the tmeps in checks?

I do not think so. The download speed limit mainly comes from my aging laptop. I believe I can get better download speed with better laptops, for example, the two Acer Swift 14 Go OLED version laptops (Intel Core Ultra 5 125H CPU based, 16GB/1TB version used by my wife, 16GB/512GB version used my daughter).

I will test with the better laptop later.

Just got my WAVLINK adapter delivered. I'm actually surprised they delivered it on Sunday.
Starhub 5Gbps ONT > Deco BE85 > Wavlink 5Gbps

I brought the same thing and was setting it up yesterday evening.

My CPU is same generation as your Acer Swift 3, 11th Gen Intel Core i7-1165G7.

My best result so far is only around 6.5Gbps.

The fan noise is not an issue to me because the other fan cooling myself is much noisier. :ROFLMAO:

Being lurking around for a while now. Thanks everyone for your generous sharing.
I signed up for the SH 5Gbps $29.55 monthly special deal when my existing contract is over.

This is my speed test results. I would expect both Download and Upload to be somewhere near 2Gbps?

I connected to Nokia router 10GbE port via a 2.5Gbps Ethernet adapter on a Thunderbolt (USB-C interface) on my laptop. I'm using CAT 6 LAN cable.

Server: PT Indosat Tbk - Singapore (id: 13058)

ISP: StarHub

Idle Latency: 3.16 ms (jitter: 0.55ms, low: 2.35ms, high: 3.68ms)

Download: 496.34 Mbps (data used: 487.0 MB)

2.93 ms (jitter: 5.43ms, low: 2.10ms, high: 223.14ms)

Upload: 2187.87 Mbps (data used: 2.4 GB)

2.89 ms (jitter: 0.39ms, low: 2.18ms, high: 7.05ms)

Packet Loss: 0.0%

Thanks in Advance.

Try Starhub OOkla Speedtest server to see if that helps.

If that does not help, try to disable 3rd party Antivirus or Firewall temporarily to see if that helps.

One report says BitDefender can cause significant network speed drop.

Hi bros, I read this thread but catch no ball leh.

I just signed up to Starhub 10 gbps plan and got the TP-Link HB710 router from them. I am directly connecting a Cat6A cable from the router’s 10 gbps port to my PC mobo, which has a 2.5 GbE LAN port.

What is the best solution/upgrade I need for my PC to utilise the 10 gbps on my PC?

Do you have empty PCI-E x4 slot?
If yes, buy a 10G NIC mentioned in the first page (Intel X550 based adapter is recommended).

If no PCI-E x4 slot, do you have empty PCI-E x 1 slot? If yes, then can buy 5Gbe PCI-E NIC to improve (not the best option but you may not have better choice), also mentioned in the first page.

If still not, then buy USB 3 to 5Gbe if you want to have some improvement (not the best choice but you may not have better options), again mentioned in the first page.

Please read the first page of this thread and come to your own conclusion. I would not recommend it even though it is a popular choice.

Post #8 in this forum --> choose these two only if you really want to take risks of not getting the full speed under Windows.

PCI-E adapters using Marvell AQC107/AQC113C chipset may have issues under Windows.

TP-Link TX401and Asus XG-C100C are the most notorious 10G network adapters in this forum under Windows. Both are using Marvell AQC107/AQC113C chipset. Some users have to reinstall Windows to get the right speed.

They are usually fine under Linux. So I will say it is partially Windows problem, partially Marvell problem.
