I am familiar with the KC-930, my wife's relatives in Batam using them. :)
Somewhat noisy though.

Hi,

Is the edges easy to cut? It seems to be made of metal frame. I cant find the sharp filter so think of getting this.

I thought the best air purifiers are the DIY strong box fan cum HEPA filter you bought at DIY stores .Humidifer/air cooler fans works as well just add HEPA to the filter.

Easy ,cheap and effective . Air purifiers seems to be useless in non-enclosed rooms anyways.

Ioniser seems to be crap too though it does stick dust particles to ur walls and funiture .

They are pretty easy to cut. But now with taobao, I would not recommend that.

But nowadays you can get HEPA filters from taobao. Some are H11 grade thereabouts, some are between H12 and H13.

All will work. Just have to find a size that's bigger.

The is by smartfilters, they have tested theirs with a Dylos laser particle counter to be approx. 99.3%, so that's H12 thereabouts.

SmartAir

They tested other taobao HEPA filters, some are only like about 92% clean at the outout.

Anyway, this is one of the biggest that I can find.

You can try that. It's easier said than done.

High chance you'd regret it in an air-con room when you try to sleep. Use it over a few years, the additional electricity you'd waste would get you a branded air purifier.

A box fan's blades is very different from a centrifugal fan found in 99% of the air purifiers out there.

And good luck trying to find that big a HEPA filter so as to cover the intakes of the air cooler.

Quite true. I have a powerful air cooler with a centrifugal blower. Unfortunately, the intake area requires a filter at least 60cm x 45cm... just couldnt find a HEPA filter this big. :(

SmartAir one confirm not fake. Actually 99.9% of them are not fake, maybe just work a wee wee bit lousier than a true H13. But seriously in real life, you won't notice one lah.

Amazon also got FSSG for 2 models. Search for Vornado MD1-002 and Fellowes HF-230. But not say v big in size. H13 True HEPA.

60x45. I guess can use 3 of them. Not cheap though, even with taobao HEPA filters. :D

Then the taobao one fits. 40.5 (16") by 30.5 (12") and depth 1 inch.

hepa

Got youku video inside, efficiency looks good as it clears the smoke as well as does well on the Dylos laser particle counter (it will work better in your Sharp). Just have to take it that it works as we do not have pm2.5 monitors or laser particle counter (can get one if you one....I have an el cheapo one lol!)

BNPB warns Sumatrans of haze from forest fires
Apriadi Gunawan, The Jakarta Post, Medan | Archipelago | Sat, June 21 2014, 5:09 PM

The National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB) has issued a warning that thick haze could cover several regions in Sumatra, especially Riau, due to several large forest fires spotted on the island during this dry season.

Sutopo Purwo Yuwono of the BNPB said that haze was already building in several regions in Riau such as Rengat, Pelalawan, Dumai and Pekanbaru. He also said that 250 hotspots had been spotted in Riau alone.

He noted, however, that the haze had yet to become significant.

“Visibility still ranges from three to eight kilometers in those regions,” he said on Saturday.

Sutopo said that according to BNPB calculations, the forest fires, which started in February, had so far caused Rp 20 billion in state losses, mainly due to damage to biosphere forests.

Additionally, he said 6 million people stood to be affected by the fires.

To date, the BNPB has disbursed Rp 134 billion and deployed 4,391 personnel in its effort extinguish the fires.(dic)

Unfortunately so. If not, i would have a really powerful big bad a$$ air purifier!!! :s13:

Well, actually if one already has an air cooler in the storeroom unused and want to do that is can lah.... Just have to tape up 3 or 4 smaller pieces together. Buy from taobao, they even sell pre-filters.

Coz some of those evaporative air coolers is quite powerful for the big ones. But damn noisy.

HEPA is designed not to be be cleaned by water/solvents. Coz the fibres are supposed to hold those very fine particulates firmly. The fibres do not loose hold of the particulates easily.
Also, the PP fibre material used to make the HEPA filter also will be damaged by physical washing.

That said, you can check out some Honeywell models on Amazon. Like this one :

Amazon.com - Honeywell AirGenius5 Air Cleaner/Odor Reducer, HFD320 - Hepa Filter Air Purifiers

But do note that there is NO replacement filter available. It is also a 110V device. So if you find that after 1 or 2 washes and the design sucks coz the particulates do not come out alright, you are really out of luck.

So why risk it?
