This is the Plantower device with Plantower module inside. Check out the video. The claim is quite ambitious, the device reading is very close to the China national monitoring station.

http://item.taobao.com/item.htm?spm...351&pvid=08e00fb4-2b92-418e-aed5-517ae49246cb

Actually there is a lot of theory behind particle counters. And some assumption behind the G1. I actually chatted with one seller because I got hella confused with the few bits of information there is on G1 (even the manufacturers don't provide a proper datasheet online, or at all).

The G1 actually outputs 2 concentration readings for each PM category. The story goes that when Plantower first developed the G1, they were using US TSI standardized particles for calibration (terms like CF=1, 美国TSI标准颗粒). End up the feedback wasn't too good as the PM reading is way off from China's official stations PM readings. So Plantower did additional post processing of the calibration and reported another set of PM concentration as atmospheric (大气环境) PM estimation.

Dear experts including WRX, I know this could have been asked before.

Is there a hepa 13 filter which I can wrapped around my aircon filter, akin to the 3M filterate available in NTUCs?

(1) Nope + not recommended.

(2) As clearly shown in my post 2 pages before this, there really is no need.
Getting as big an airflow from your aircon FCU + surface area flowing through that is key.

I can do a test with 3M FIltrete + Aircon FCU vs my Samsung AX40, but from gut feel, the 3M Filtrete + Aircon FCU is performing at around half the performance of the Samsung AX40. I myself was surprised at the performance. Though it must be said that my Aircon FCU is very much unclogged and performing at tip top condition.

Also, note that the surface area of 3M Filtrete used is about 85% of the whole 38cm x 60cm piece. If you use a fan, then correspondingly the surface area would drop.

3M Filtrete is sourced from Amazon during end 2013 (after PSI 401 haze)

35 ug/m3 -> 4 ug/m3 PM2.5 concentration in a 12 sqm room after 20 mins with a very clean 9000BTU/hr FCU in Turbo mode.

Take 2014 Oct 7th HAri Raya PH, peak concentration of 131 ug/m3 South 6pm. (Other areas are high also, but not that high)

That means say 1800h = 131 ug/m3.
1820h = 20 ug/m3
1840h = 3 ug/m3

Of course that's in theory. In reality, the mixing of the cleaned air @ outlet and dirty air in the room plays a part, opening/closing of doors and "wind" leakage around your window + doors would affect (when the wind blows, it's never airtight unless your windows are the new ones with gasket which are quite ok).

In reality, it's probably not going to just take 40 mins to drop from 131 ug/m3 to 3 ug/m3. More like 60 mins.

Cleanrooms need source control and take care of laminar or turbulent airflows.

Not say bothered, 5-10 mins job nia. Coz tio suan buay song. :(
Piang, you really take the effort to counter-suan. :s22:

Anyway, I can't be bothered. Not say kena jio go Tiong Bahru Plaza 7pm settle. :s22:

NAP620 comes with three layers, HEPA, AC and a cold catalytic converter (from my understanding).
These are the China's SKG version of the exact fit, probably OEM. Haven't tried it myself coz thinking of just make a thicker HEPA instead when need replacement.

I think then can fit the 45mm max depth of the seller that I recommended.

RMB588. 45W, 300 m3/hr. However, the product has double boxing. Also, I'd recommend shipping any APs from China to ALWW the seller and top up like 20-30 RMB to upgrade to 顺丰快递。 4PX should be pretty ok to HKG, after which 4PX would use DHL which is also pretty ok. Local leg Speedpost is pretty ok too.

Only problem is, the product is 6.8kg....but everything in = 11kg. So it's a job more for NWT1978's 65daigou sea shipping.

The build of material cost for my wifi-enabled laser particle counter project comes up to about $100 (sensor, processor board, wifi dongle, casing, power supply)

Formaldehyde outgassing from sofas, esp wooden type of furnitures.

If you have new furnitures in the room, esp if you whole house is newly renovated......I'd recommend you not use an air purifier + aircon and keep the room sealed. Esp if you have babies.

http://www.livescience.com/50602-air-pollution-brain-volume.html

Breathing polluted air every day may change a person's brain in ways that end up leading to cognitive impairment, according to a new study.

In the study, researchers examined 943 healthy adults who were at least 60 years old and lived the New England region. The investigators used magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) to look at the participants' brain structures, and compared the images with the air pollution levels in the places where the participants lived.

The researchers found that an increase of 2 micrograms per cubic meter in fine-particle pollution — a range that can be observed across an average city — was linked to a 0.32 percent reduction in brain volume. (Fine-particle pollution is a common type of pollution that comes from car exhaust, among other sources.)

That amount of change in brain volume "is equivalent to about one year of brain aging," said study author Elissa H. Wilker, a researcher in the cardiovascular epidemiology research unit at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston.

In general, a smaller brain volume is caused by the loss of neurons that comes with aging, the researchers said. [10 Things You Didn't Know About the Brain]

That same increase of 2 micrograms per cubic meter of fine-particle pollution was also linked with a 46 percent increase in the participants' risk of having what researchers call "silent strokes," which can be seen on brain scans but don't usually cause symptoms. Such strokes have been associated with poorer cognitive function and dementia, the researchers said.
The researchers found that the people in the study who lived in areas with higher levels of pollution had smaller brain volumes and were also at higher risk of silent strokes compared with the people who lived in areas where the air was less polluted. However, the study was done at one point in time, and Wilker noted that it does not prove there is a cause-and-effect relationship between air pollution and brain changes.

This is the first study to examine a link between air pollution, brain volume and the risk of silent strokes in a population of older adults, the researchers said. Previous studies have examined the relationship between air pollution and the brain in children, but not in older adults, they said.

It is not clear exactly how air pollution may change people's brains, the researchers said. They suspect that air pollution may cause increased inflammation, but the researchers are still trying to understand the link, Wilker said. Previous research has linked markers of inflammation to smaller brain volume, according to the study.

The new results may help the researchers understand "what could be going on between air pollution and serious outcomes like stroke and cognitive impairment," Wilker told Live Science.

The study was published today (April 23) in the American Heart Association journal Stroke.

Prenatal Air Pollution Levels Linked to ADHD in Kids

Kids who are exposed to the highest levels of air pollution before birth have a greater risk of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) symptoms than their less exposed peers, according to new research.

In the study, researchers looked at levels of compounds called polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAH), which are a component of air pollution.

"Those children born to moms who were exposed to high levels of PAH during pregnancy had five times the odds of having an increased number of symptoms" of ADHD, said Frederica Perera, a professor at Columbia University's Mailman School of Public Health in New York City and the first author of the new study. "Those symptoms were specifically of the inattentive type," she said (as opposed to being the symptoms of hyperactivity).

These compounds are the products of incomplete fossil fuel combustion, and are known to damage the developing nervous system. Traffic exhaust and residential fuel oil use are the main sources of PAH in cities.

To gauge kids' prenatal exposure to PAHs, the researchers measured levels of fragments of the mothers' DNA bonded to PAH molecules, also known as DNA adducts, in umbilical cord blood. "That gives us a kind of fingerprint of individual exposure," Perera said. "It shows how much was actually activated into an immediate toxic form that could damage DNA."

In previous studies in the same cohort of children, Perera and her team found associations between higher levels of prenatal PAH exposure and the risk of developmental delays at age 3, lower IQ scores at age 5, and a greater likelihood of anxiety, depression and attention problems at ages 6 and 7.

The new study, published today (Nov. 5) in the journal PLoS One, looked at the children when they were 9 years old. The researchers took the children's postnatal PAH exposure into account, as well as any exposure to secondhand smoke, so they could focus on the prenatal effects of pollution.

They looked at the kids' ADHD symptoms using the Child Behavior Checklist and the Conners' Parent Rating Scale—Revised, which are two screening tests that use parents' reporting of their child's behavior to determine if the child should receive more detailed evaluation for ADHD.

Just over one-third of the 250 children in the new study had high prenatal PAH exposure. These kids were five times more likely to have "moderately to markedly atypical" scores on a test of children's ability to pay attention, and had triple the risk of a high score on a test of all ADHD symptoms.

The study is the first to link prenatal PAH exposure to ADHD symptoms, Perera said. "If replicated, then these findings could lead to new ways or stronger ways, better ways, to prevent ADHD," she said. "By nature, environmental exposures are preventable ... this we consider one possible contributor to ADHD and one that's preventable, and the findings should be followed up so that necessary preventive strategies could be taken."

New York City has already reduced levels of PAH pollution by enacting anti-idling regulations for trucks and buses, and requiring new city buses to use cleaner fuels, Perera said. "We do see that policies can make a difference, and air pollution is the responsibility of policymakers."

Pregnant women who are concerned about the risks of pollution exposure should be sure to eat plenty of fresh produce, according to Perera. "Good nutrition is very important, and helps to offset the effects of pollutants," she said.

Winix WACU5300 @ Metro Centrepoint, 58th Anniversary offer.

Metro members SGD258

AHAM cerified CADR 235 CFM cu ft/min for Smoke. Probably around 400 low m3/hr airflow, or more.

BLDC motor Brushless DC. 70W in Turbo.

Low / Med / High / Turbo (db), 36.2 / 43.9 / 47.9 / 61.8. 4 speeds.
Too loud in Turbo mode, High speed of 47.9dB is already too noisy for most people for sleeping.

CFM (Low / Med / High / Turbo) 53/113/173/226 (???)
