took the plunge.. so far, so good.. maybe my ears are not so good.. but I think the sound is similar to 1.32, if not same as it.

Have not try it with DSD files.

does ak120 support replaygain for flac?

find that 24bit flac sound softer than 16bit, beside the vol different can't really hear the differences in dynamic range.

Jokes aside, I was able to hear subtle differences between 24Bit FLAC and 16Bit FLAC, mostly in the soundstage and instruments' dynamics (slight differences in timbre etc.), which may be due to the slightly better separation.

Whether or not it's placebo, I would try to conduct more A/B'ing. Perhaps others could share their experiences too?

It might be the ripping of the 24bit flac. If it was a lousy rip, it would sound worse than 16bit that had a good rip.

True, sometimes it's the original source itself, most discs are natively 16Bit, and even if you upsample it to 24Bit, it doesn't have an additional details from the normal 16Bit.

Haha... maybe i old liao can't really hear the subtle differences.
But as most of my flac is in 16bit, the lower vol of 24bit means i had to up vol which is quite troublesome.

Might be a bad rip, I even tried A/Bing 16, 24bit and DSD dl from 2L most likely from the same source.

Personally, i find that vocals are much more real/lively with a very realistic vocal texture & layering + transparent on the 24bit recording. also, the sub bass is much more tame and controlled. instrument separation is not really present for me but the coherency of the musicality of multiple instruments are better.

The 24bits sure is better than the 16bits if ripping from the same source but DSD is still the best...................

I can't really hear the difference between AIFF and WAV format...........................

Think uncle getting old liao...................

Please note the dsd playback on ak120 is not genuine .... It just convert dsd to PCM

Can consider korg mr-2 that is a dsd recorder and can playback true dsd
