I managed to listen to focal, dls, sinofni

Focal was my second choice

I listen more of a jazz.. pop . Instrument music.. micro p seems to be more define after hearing it
I didn't listen to the 7 series.. manage to listen to the 5 series .. which is good enough for my ears
You’re probably on the right track then ...

The average user in here tends to be into vocals-dominant stuff, e.g. Chinese songs, and the odd jazz vocal listener. If I can set up a blind test without letting people know what speakers they are listening to, people into vocals-dominant stuff will tend to favour warmer speakers, which is why I usually recommend to this group to look at such speakers. However, when it comes to instruments, warmer speakers tend to come off as missing details ... or rather, instruments tend to sound somewhat ”muddy” on warmer speakers. It’s not that the speakers are no good, it’s just that is part of the speakers’ characteristics.

If you’re more into instrument-dominant stuff or more ”balanced” music, you’d tend to favour speakers with no - or rather, minimal - colouration. Understandably, you won’t get the fuller-sounding vocals of warmer speakers, but some people - myself included - prefer that, because the music as a whole sounds more natural.

Someone once told me early on when I started playing ICE ... a $1,000 guitar should sound like a $1,000 guitar, a $100 guitar should sound like a $100 guitar ... you don’t want a $1,000 guitar to sound like a $100 guitar, or a $100 guitar to sound like a $1,000 guitar :s13: It’s a little simplistic to describe it this way, almost like the guy talking down to a n00b (I don’t know ... maybe you even feel that way from what I’d been saying to you :o ). But it’s kinda true when you think about it.

You’d tend to find speakers that people classify as ”bright” have similar qualities as well, which is probably why you have a good opinion of Focals ... but with ”bright” speakers you may experience listening fatigue on prolonged listening, i.e. if you go on long drives. If you only spend like 15-20 minutes or so per drive it may never be an issue for you though, but if e.g. you stay east side and work at Tuas or something ( ;) ) you might experience that.

I’d still suggest you give a set of 7-series a listen, and a Z-series setup if you can =:p Then compare that with the opinion you have of the 5-series before you spend money. I don’t encourage people to start with lower or entry level and think maybe upgrade down the road ... it’s next to impossible to offload stuff these days. So yeah ... do it once, do it right.

Agree with you. My current set up is now suffering a huge loss when I am trading in. Seriously thinking of 7-5-7 combination and hopefully can just upgrade the amps along the way .

Kids are still small thus boot space is still very previous for me to store their bicycles, scooters and others

1)Of cos 7 series speakers and cost is so much more..
2) my current amps is just a micro amp 4 channel .. may not bring out the best of the speakers performance. Thus need to get another amp to bring out the performance

Get the helix p6 with dsp to go with the 3way. I think it makes sense on cost compared to getting separate.

What type of amps do you all use? Care to share the poison

more importantly what suits you. =) there are 2 train of thoughts. first is the use of integrated amps±dsp or the use of class D amps. second is the use of individual amps for each set of speaker, which are normally class a or a/b amps.

depending on whether you believe in amps as important, the price difference for low end amps vs the high end ones are significantly different. some might argue that amps should cost more than speakers, as they are far more important.

Hi, just a quick question, has anybody shipped in a head unit from amazon before? The user manual states that the applicable radio frequencies are 87.9-107.9, so should be able to receive local radio stations right?

Are there any other factors that would otherwise prevent the headunit from being used in SG?

Most US sets are not able to tune to the odd/even (can't remember which) frequences.

X2400.2GE 4-channel + X2000.2GE 2-channel for 3-way front. GE = Graphic Edition, difference between GE and non-GE is GE got Burr Brown.

X2000 non-GE for subwoofer. Yes you read that right, really got people use a £@€#ing Brax amp for subwoofer :s13:
