Hi,

I am helping my parents with a simple setup to access mewatch using a non-smart tv. Also thinking of the mibox but they will not know how to cast from a phone - if this is the only way to access using mibox.

How about the newly launched mi tv stick?

Advice any bro? Thank you.

Just to share that my review on Mi TV Stick after using it for two weeks.

Setup/Installation - Very straightforward. Fuss free. Fumbled a bit on the HDMI-CEC option but after some trials with the TV/AVR, everything runs smoothly. Also played with Talkback option, thinking it may be helpful for the old folks who may not read every chinese characters. However, turned it off eventually. A bit too much info when i practically reads out every line you click or scroll. Tried Google Assistant (In Chinese). Nice and will teach them how to use it to search for videos in youtube. I could not get the remote to pick up "Ok Google", not sure why but it is okay. Tried a short while Chinese (HK), Cantonese. Noted that it works on mobile but on on TV. Is Chinese (Taiwan), Hokkien btw?

Navigation/Performance - Smooth. They are not going to be heavy users, only use it to watch youtube. Not into gaming or 4K contents. Installed the 4D/toto app. I could not find any other app that will interest them. : ( Hopefully Mediacorp can come up with Mewatch one day. Meanwhile, noted that their youtube channel also have some limited contents (Luo Ming Yi, Little Nyonya, etc)

Home menu - Removed/disabled the defaults - Play store (game/music), amazon prime, netflix, facebook watch, etc.
Brought up the 3 youtube channels (Recommended, Subscribed and Trending) to the homepage. It will be nice if i can also bring in "Watch later". Why? Because when i find good videos, i can save them to "Watch later" remotely (via the same google account) and they can access it easily, no need to navigate to the "Watch later" sub-sub page which they cannot locate. :(

Dislike - The netflix and amazon prime buttons on the remote.

Appreciate all the sharing in this thread : )

Nice sharing. Thanks.

BTW, Netflix and Amazon Prime buttons are required by Netflix and Amazon, as part of their certification requirements.

My Mi Box S is an older version with Netflix and Live TV button. I do not use Netflix myself and the Live TV button is kind of useless as well. The new version comes with Netflix and Amazon Prime button. But Amazon Prime Video somehow does not work for me (no video, only sound -- it actually works right out of factory reset, but then does not work after installation of some other apps from Play Store, so I give up for now). I got the Amazon Prime for free one year as part of SingTel promotion.

do you know the famous RSS player?

you can either run it on stick or run on handphone and chromecast to the stick.

there are other apps like adrama.

go to facebook and look for group - tv box sg - to find out what you have been missing .

China VPN means "going into China" VPN, like AJS爱加速, Transocks, SpeedIn and SpeedCN. You can try the free ads supported Transocks. I pay for AJS myself. They are needed mainly for VOD apps like Tencent Video or iQiyi, not for live TV apps.

As for China live TV, all the above three should still work. 华文电视got pop-up saying the free services may stop soon. 超级直播was not working for a few days but came back again. 电视家 has always been working but yes you need to use wechat to unblock the features.

Still yes there are better apps now.

http://m.shafa.com/list/tv
火星直播
橙色电视Live

The above two apps have no ads. They do not require registration.

oic will try it out thanks!

Yes but they are expensive. Taobao has it, usually with HDDs.
JD.com 家庭KTV点歌机 JD.com Home Karaoke machine

One of the relatively popular brands in Singapore/Malaysia seems to be InAndOn 音王。

Which apps have you tried? If for Mandarin/Cantonese songs, there are good apps for Android TV boxes like WeSing, Angel Sing, Changba, etc.

For Android TV boxes, you can use apps like WeSing (全民K歌), Angel Sing (天籁K歌), 唱吧, etc, for Chinese/Cantonese/Hokkien songs. Smule seems to be popular for English songs.

天籁K歌 Angel Sing
VIP for 12 months : RMB 198, or RMB 30 for a month.

全民K歌 WeSing
VIP for 12 months : RMB 240, or RMB 60 for 3 months, RMB 20 for 1 month.

唱吧 Changba
VIP for 12 month RMB 150, or RMB 20 per month.

多唱 DuoChang
VIP for 12 month RMB99, or RMB 20 for one month

For all the above apps, you need to pay for the mobile phone app VIP separately.

More info in the Karaoke thread.

This is don't like. I rem see8ng something like android box but instead of movie, it is song....so can search song and play then sing...
But i can't find the product now

The 点歌机 I mentioned are based on Android and have songs from the HDD as well as Cloud.

I think if you may still need to pay for support to upgrade or add your own songs. For example, 星网视易 also owns DuoChang 多唱 app. I believe they will offer you the VIP for free for some time and then you need to subscribe to add more songs in the future. As for no brand ones, you may not get good support (mobile apps, adding more songs, etc).

There are different versions of MX10 Pro.

RK3318/RK3328 CPU
H6 CPU

The H6 CPU is a bit faster than RK3318/RK3328 but then pretty hot. Be careful if you have the H6 CPU version. Better monitor the CPU temperature and apply a fan in the case you have the H6 CPU version.

It is better to buy S905X2 or S905X3 CPU based box if you want to buy low cost no brand generic boxes. A95X F3 and A95X F3 Air S905X3 based box seem to be popular now. They are only a bit more expensive than your box but the CPU is faster yet cooler.
