Just because u wan to access 5GHz channel on your device somewhere in your house and you can't, and you condemn the product?

5GHz usually used when within line of sight. Short distance. The nature of the channel is like that, poor penetration.

If u wan to connect wifi in bedroom which is far away from the mesh unit, then 2.4GHz is recommended.

Unless you are tellling me even right in front of the mesh you can't connect then perhaps the device is faulty?

the technician said the airtiles cannot penetrate more than 2 walls for 5ghz

That is an idiotic statement. WiFi Mesh isn't meant to let you penetrate walls. It's not made like that.

Mesh is supposed to give you the flexibility to place your access points such that it will maximize your range and access speed.

2.4GHz will always have longer range because of its lower frequency while 5GHz gives you better bandwidth because of its higher frequency, but 5GHz won't be able to pass thru walls as easily. It's basic physics. If you know why the sky is blue, then this isn't difficult to understand either.

So to go back to your point on penetrating walls, it made no sense at all.

@VodkaPear, WiFi Mesh will be able to give you better coverage, that's for sure. You just need to optimize the positioning of your access points for the best coverage and performance.

Can always try without airties first right? As in sign up without airties then see how router performs. If ok then fine. If sh*tty then im sure we can call them to include airties.

Or must decide from the start & if we sign up no airties means cant change liao?

Hi,

my Airties 4920 comes with login/password. I cannot access the UI. Anybody knows the default or singtel password? I tried "blanks" but it doesn't work.

Thanks in advance

Airties can be added anytime during the service continuity.. You can always try out your own set up and see if it works lor. But I can confirm plus chop with you, wifi mesh will change the way u use WiFi, be it with airties or velop or whichever product. The mesh system makes roaming far more seamless than having multiple access points lor..

You might wanna check if there is a paper in the package that says the login password or ID?

Set up the airties some time ago and totally forgotten if there is a default password to it..

Firmware Request

Shout-out to Singtel as I lack the post count:

I would like to have the firmware for ethernet backend, thanks!

Side note to the folks who are using Singtel Mesh as well, is the only troubleshooting method to blinking red lights is re-positioning the units? I already have an ethernet throughout the house, so I am looking forward to trying that later.

Additionally, I was expecting the 2.4Ghz network to still be working even if the 5Ghz red light is blinking, but it somehow drops the connection on the devices connected. Am I getting something wrong here?

Was planning to use my Asus AC88U in lieu of the singtel router. But if air ties is as good as it sounds, plus so idiot proof (i suck at network config), i might just get air ties from the start.

Mine is 4 room flat (new estate about 10 yrs) so will prob put the fibre TP, singtel modem & gigabit switch in the utility closet. Then place one air ties unit in the study (or would it be better at TV console in living room?) & the other in master bedroom.

Or is there better placement? Im guessing 2 units is enough for 92 sqm four roomer rite? 3 air ties like a little overkill.

Hi Singtel, pls PM me the link for airties latest firmware. Thanks.
Thanks Singtel for the quick response.

Looking forward to even better throughputs.

But in case I need to fallback to the current firmware, how do I go about it?

Cheers!

Hi there,

If I am not wrong, there is a factory reset button behind the airties. You can use a small pin and press it for 10 seconds and the device will reset to factory settings. Hope this helps.

Hi blakbyte,

If you need to fallback to the previous version, you need to provide us with your Singnet ID so that we can remotely do the firmware change for you. This also requires you to use the default Singtel router.

If this need arises, do let us know and we will drop you a private message to get your account details.

Thanks.
