Have upgraded all my airties to the latest version without much fuss. Ethernet backhaul worked as advertised. Once all units were cabled, it took a minute or two for the mesh network to stabilize and perform optimally.

My iPhone 6+ Speedtest can now hit almost 300mbps pretty consistently. It was about 70mbps before.

IPad 2 about 400mbps.

Sonos players seemed to be running fine on the mesh network too.

Anyone tried both airties & velop? I know singtel sells both but which has better coverage? Velop costs quite a bit more but then its a pack of 3. If one gets the normal airties i.e. pack of 2 is it enough for 4 room flat?

Velop has a better coverage in my own usage, cos its much taller than airties. Although both are internal antennas, i find that velop has a more consistent wifi signal than airties, but the difference is not so much until you will abandon airties purchase with velop.

Both systems will also come with their own advantages and disadvantages. So you might wanna consider the price point first then decide if you should go for airties or velop.

I personally will suggest you go for velop if you can afford because velop is still a 3rd party product which is supported by linksys, meaning faster firmware updates and inclusion of future features. whereas for airties the firmware is controlled by singtel, so you might not get the latest firmware from airties directly. Also, velop has a dedicated bandwidth for backhaul wirelessly while airties uses part of the 5Ghz for backhaul.

I would like the most recent firmware for my singtel airties 4920 mesh too. But I have been experiencing very slow internet speeds despite an excellent reception to the mesh. When I connect to my original router the speed is good though. Any reason why that might be?

Hi streen,

We will be sending you the download link via a private message soon.

As for your query on poor speeds when connected to the WiFi Mesh Airties, may we check if both lights (5GHz) are green or red?

are you running the latest firmware with ethernet backhaul or are u running the setup with wireless backhaul?

if its wireless backhaul, i would suppose that performance is normal, because the 5Ghz wireless backhaul works the best with a line of sight..

as in you are connecting your device wirelessly to airties or you are referring a desktop connected via lan to airties?

poor internet speed will be dependent on the channel you use, on the quality of wireless backhaul etc.. probably you can give us more info so that we may suggest alternatives to improve your situation?

Hi renfred89, I am using wireless backhaul with lastest firmware.
Ethernet backhaul is not possible as the laptop in the 3rd room does not come with ethernet port .

One more thing ,i can't even use the 2.4ghz in my third room as well ,LED lighted in green, but cant go into internet .What could be the problem?
Thanks.

wireless backhaul will be working better if its closer to the primary node. if you place it in a room, its as good as nothing as the backhaul requires a strong and reliable signal.

Before we try something else, can't go into internet refers to successful connection with the wifi mesh? I mean, does your laptop shows successful connection and when you launch browser, browser says no internet connection?

If its so, i suspect the backhaul can't even be established..

So ethernet backhaul involves connecting the unit to a ethernet port in the room? And airties supports this only with the latest firmware? How about Velop? Hmm from what im reading it seems Velop is the better choice.

That's right. Ethernet backhaul works when a cable is connected to the node itself and is only available via latest firmware version.

Velop also the same. But velop needs you to manually change it to bridged mode and then you'll be fine..

Likewise, if u change velop to bridged mode, u lose some functions like parental control..

Hi all, i have read quite a number of post of this thread but my networking knowledge is weak and i am even more confused about the ethernet backhaul firmware. Can i seek your kind advice on my below questions please ? Thanks in advance

1. If i recontract with singtel say this week for the $10 monthly Airties for 24 months, does it already come with the latest firmware (with ethernet backhaul) or we need to update firmware ourselves ?

2. My flat is wired with Lan cable (Cat 5e) in almost every room, terminating all at my bedroom. I am using AC1900 as my main wifi router (on 1 GB fibre) in my bedroom where my ONT point is located also and an wireless AP in my living room (about 3 walls apart and no line of sight of course) connected via a LAN Point. This results in i having to manually switch my wifi network on my iphone/ipad whenever i walk into living room from bedroom. The speed from this living room AP is bad and i have multiple SSID. If i get the airties now and using the ethernet backhaul, connecting one mesh beside my router and turning off my router's wifi, while the second mesh via lan point replacing my living room's AP (both mesh will be 3 walls apart), does it improve overall in my case or i am better off sticking to my current AP setup? Can they still mesh since they are so far apart ? Ideally i hope to have the full 5GHZ connection and speed throughout. Is it possible ?

Thanks all

1) if i remember correctly, singtel has mentioned over here that new units from singtel come with new updated firmware.

2) mesh system on ethernet backhaul will reduce the number of SSID to just one provided band steering is turned on, and that you should find an improvement in wireless performance as the handing over from one node to another will be a seamless one. considering that you will be on ethernet backhaul, the wireless speed will not be limited by environment as compared to conventional wireless backhaul..

Hi cloud77,

The Airties WiFi Mesh should be loaded with the latest firmware version that support Ethernet Backhaul. If not, we can remotely update the WiFi Mesh.

Since the flat has LAN point in almost every room, there should be no issue connecting each WiFi Mesh unit via Ethernet backhaul to have one single SSID.

Do let us know if you need further assistance or clarification.

Could someone please share the link to download latest firmware for the Airties WiFi Mesh.

Thanks!
