i'm thinking of applying for UQ scholarship. i know that UQ needs to offer me a place first before i can apply for the scholarship. so lets say that UQ has accepted me, then what's next? do i just apply for the scholarship? or i need to accept their offer first and then apply for it? does anyone know??

There is no need for application of scholarship UQ, if i am not wrong once you accept them, they will access your eligibility and send you the confirmation and scholarship offer. You can then decide whether to accept it. GPA is expected to be at least 3.6 cos my friend was accepted for GPA 3.8

I think it works this way. You send in application for acceptance with your results, they reply whether you'll get accepted as well as scholarship offer, meaning to say you've been accepted a scholarship and awaiting for your reply as to whether you'll take the offer. This scholarship will cover half your tuiton fees of the entire course.

For a more detailed and accurate explanation, you can email UQ's administration office. They should reply you during the weekdays pretty quickly i reckon.

I stayed there for around ten days. It's not really a posh living environment, but it's comfortable and clean to my expectations.

Hmm I just agreed to staying 5 months there, no deposit but they asked for my credit card number. Oh, and they said minimum stay for student lodging is 1 month. Unless you stayed in the motel (AU$80/day)? I really don't wish to commit myself to staying so long there without checking out the place.

I stayed in the motel style cos i was with 2 other mates. If the minimum stay for student lodging is for one month, i think you should just commit for a month instead of 5 months. You're going to look for permanent form of accommodation ain't it? 180pw is quite an expensive place to live in, which excludes transport to uni costing 30++ a month.

1 month should be more than sufficient to get your housing application and confirmation.

Honestly I think everyone's more concerned about uni application for 2008. Most of them arent ready and planned to go UQ like you do (which is good).

I only know of catered food campus that is the cheapest amongst them all, if i am not wrong is Union College.

Concession fares - St Lucia - zone 2 - go to www.translink.qld.gov.au
Bus only - cheap. Train - more expensive.

Colleges are almost all fully booked by now.

You can try E.L property apartments for around 175 pw if you are really desperate. Munroe Street is one of the nearest streets to school. But imo I wouldn't take it for that price.

A more detailed bus fares: http://www.translink.qld.gov.au/qt/translin.nsf/index/ti_fares_conc_Jul07

Alternatively you might require taking citycat, the ferry to school as well. If you're staying at some other areas.

eh any1 studying in UQ business or law school now? is there like some kinda dress code among students?

and 1 more thing i need to ask... what's up with the requirement of having some "referees" in an application to the residential colleges? Who should I ask to "referee" my application?

I would recommend Union College. It generally has the largest Asian and Singaporean students among all the colleges. Moreover, it is also the cheapest college among the others. If you have anymore questions, you can feel free to ask.

p.s. I had just graduated from UQ last Dec, so I think I can answer most people queries. :)

I don't think there is any dress code for students in UQ aint it? Typically, the local aussies guys like to wear t-shirt with berms and thongs(slippers), nothing special in particular. Business students also don't have to attend laboratory sessions, so no covered shoes are required too. Can i ask who actually told you about the dress code?
