some shops don't give u the choice. they will auto press for u..

Nope. they do. by Japanese standard, they will use new cc terminal machines whereby you insert it yourself. It is what I see last year. based on the Japanese customer services standard, they will ask you first before they peoceed

When I was there (in Japan) in 2016 and 2017, that arrangement was not there.

Again, all transactions I had are in JPY in all the years I went to Japan.

Yes, I had 2 refunds from airlines. Also from aliexpress.

Hi Tiger9119,
Can I check with you on AliExpress?
Everything I try to set up the YouTrip card as a payment method, it fails.
However it does allow me to manually key in the card details for each payment/order but that gets old pretty fast.
Did you manage to add the Youtrip card to your list of cards with AliExpress?

I do not add the card to AliExpress or any other website, I enter manually the card number every time I make a purchase.

OK, I just figured out how to add YouTrip card to AliExpress:
You have to add the card on the web (PC version).
Then it sticks.
You can ask to add it in the Android app but it forgets the next time.
Come to think of it, I have always added credit cards to AliExpress on the PC, not the app - maybe the app forgets all credit cards, not just YouTrip!

Perhaps someone will try & let me know....

is youtrip's fx even better than rates at arcade for jpy?

i used recently for thb, didn't seem better than arcade rates but maybe not a fair comparison as the txn were a few days apart. i only got 22.3x for thb and 22.4x at arcade. asked in the youtrip thread and apparently the rate is considered reasonable for youtrip.

I use the remaining value in my YouTrip account in Singapore. It can be used as an EZLink card as well as a Mastercard. It is ok not to be able to withdraw the amount. In the first place, there is no need to deposit too much in the account.

Been using Youtrip almost everywhere in Tokyo Osaka these past 2 days.
Oddly amount deducted .. but status of each transaction still shows "pending".

But at least all my purchases were never rejected once.
