Hi guys, been reading this thread for quite a while...
I'm contemplating to get a foldie, only foldies due to space constraint...

My past bikes are of urata or lower quality and a current cheap foldie w disc brake from qoo10😅... I have experienced 2 of my cheap mtb stolen from my voideck...

Just wanna ask erwin and VD, if the 2.8k for brompton is justified? Given the quality and the convenience?

As of now I have no intention to commute with it. I want a foldie for weekly rides exploring, ride to meet up w friends and to be able to run errands w it, like going around neighbourhood, grocery shopping.

Just seeking opinions first😆

Running errands with a bicycle?

If you really want an all rounder bicycle that is comfortable, go long distance, comfortable but doesn't fold as compact as a brompton, you can try birdy. It rides like a full sized bike. Make no mistake, it uses standard shimano parts and is fast. Easily 32-34kmh... I was struggling to catch up birdy bikes with my 451 wheel tern.

Personally 2.8k for a six speed brompton is somewhat expensive. Try look for second hand brompton. A two speed brompton should suffice if you don't intend to climb slopes. Brompton has a lot of accessories to put stuffs. Normally i have a front carrier bag and a rear rack to carry stuffs. People have toured around the world with brompton. The problem with brompton is that there are numerous proprietary parts, very awkward shifting and most bike mechanics will avoid servicing brompton. But it is super compact and it very portable (easily roll around; great for taking train).

Folded size is 58.5cm high x 56.5cm long x 27cm wide..

This is my brompton tucked under the small compact ikea galant table. I bought it secondhand from a fellow hwz forumner here for $1.2k (6 speed). Great bargain.

There are other contenders like the brompton clone (MIT cycle) and Ori bike. I have personally not ridden these two, so i can't really comment.

This is my 451 wheel tern inside the cupboard. Folded dimension size is about 38 x 82 x 72cm.

I do use it to run errands more than actual rides.. Durian, pizza, dinner, groceries :s22:, commute to work a few times as well. I somewhat agree with erwin on the proprietary parts, but things have improved somewhat and there are many third party to choose from, so it is still upgradable to a certain extent.

to be honest, I use my Tyrell more than my B. But if you have the budget and really thinks the bike suit your requirement, then why not. Otherwise, I suggest you take your time and explore more options, test ride them before parting with your money. Are you a speedster? do you love to zhng your bike? I think many of the foldie out there do have attachment for bags, pannier & etc. The important thing is, will you be satisfied getting a B.

MV is having a CNY sale right now, if you still interested in getting one. :s12:

Run errands with expensive bike? Good luck. Best to get a ulac alarm lock such as bulldog, watchdog or bee. Clavis brand also possible, but looks ugly or low class.

If u are interested in cheap foldie, crius, then i would share my info and experience with you, including upgrading of parts.

Lights already bought. Comet light :o 25 dollar 2 pcs, 1 red 1 white. :o
Thats a good start. For helmet, don't delay. Dont wait for your dream helmet to appear. For now just go any bike shop and get the cheapest yet comfortable one to use for short term. If not u forever no helmet. I bought my prowell for 30 bucks then realised it is wrong size for me. Then i bought aleoca for 30 bucks which is cheap, light and comfortable. Then finally gotten 85 bucks specialized for the branding. The first two helmets were just temporary protection. I rather spend such money than taking the risk of head injuries. Pls lor what is 60 bucks, when they saved my head twice. One at changi village shop, mild bang onto metal pole. Second at punggol pcn, hit by a thick tree branch.

I am thinking to buy online 11.90 dollar only from Decathlon Singapore. :o
Safe or not? :o

Better to test physically. Everybody's head is different, the same size helmet may feel very different to you across different brands.

You don't need a lock when you use brompton. Cuz you will be rolling it after folding. I brought it into toilet, hawker center, supermarket etc.

His priority is to run errands. Does crius have bag attachment systems?

Depends what errands. Maybe sometimes not possible to push in a bicycle? I dont know.

Crius can mount a rack behind.

Most place do allow brompton to be folded and push in.. it is definitely a more pushable foldie in the market and the front bag rack allows u to use it as a shopping bag as well.

if broadwalk looking for a fling, can consider a Brompton.. first time I took a train ride, I met a female Brompton rider and we started a conversation :p

The female brompton riders i know all >40 years old.

Maybe Broadwalk has a unique preference. :s13:
