Good, now most of the Asus WiFi 7 routers have the updated FW to deal with the security issues.

FW updated for Asus WiFi 7 routers sold in Singapore: ROG GT-BE98, ZenWiFi BQ16. ZenWiFi BT10, RT-BE88U and RT-BE86U.
FW not updated for Asus WiFi 7 routers sold in Singapore: TUF-BE6500 and RT-BE58U.

FW updated for Asus WiFi 7 routers not sold in Singapore: ROG GT-BE98 Pro, ZenWiFi BQ16 Pro. ZenWiFi BT8, TUF-BE3600.
FW not updated for Asus WiFi 7 routers not sold in Singapore: ZenWiFi BT6 and ZenWiFi BD4.

my BQ16 is also hot, but after i bought a twin cpu fan and let BQ16 sit on top of it...it's much better now.
Yeah, i always get those cheap USB fans from AliExpress. For power, I simply connect them to the USB port of my ASUS router. The temperature drop can be rather significant - as much as 10-15 degress Celsius.
So far as a node, it doesn't run hot. Perhaps because it is really not doing much. Only broadcasting 5ghz and 2.4ghz. Maybe after some time, I will make it again as the primary.

Noticed though that I tried to activate a wifi ssid with 6ghz only for this node (primary is be88u dual band only), it doesnt seems to be broadcasting. But good thing I dont need it at the moment, so it is a non issue.

So far in my experience with BQ16 as node to my BE88u wired backhaul directly, I dont have such issues. Assuming all factors are removed, my guess should be the switch giving you issue. Any chance you will be able to test the bq16 directly to the bq16 instead with a switch...just to get the feel of it if it still causes those dropouts.
I recently checked my system logs and noticed an unknown device that keeps authenticating and deauthenticating every minute. I tried using MAC address filtering to block it, but it didn’t work, and the issue persists—this device continues to "spam" authentication and deauthentication attempts.

I managed to mitigate the disconnection issue I had earlier on by switching my 2.4GHz Wi-Fi channel from 20MHz to Auto(20/40MHz). Since then, I’ve been able to access my app and the router's web interface without any interruptions, and everything seems stable over the past few days. However, I’m still seeing the unknown MAC address repeatedly attempting to authenticate and deauthenticate.

From what I’ve read online, it seems like others have experienced this too, but there doesn’t appear to be a definitive solution. I’m also unsure if this poses any security risks or other downsides. By any chance does anyone have insights or advice on how to stop this from happening?

I've also looked up the MAC address of this device and apparently the device manufacturer is "Tuya". Which I don't use at all except for 2 devices - My steigen laundry rack and sterra air purifier.

The following local review of Asus ZenWiFi BQ16 mentions FW bugs related to IoT device disconnection issues.

Not sure if the users in this forum have also experienced such issues.

https://lesterchan.net/blog/2024/11/11/asus-zenwifi-bq16-mesh-router-review/

BQ16 runs hot, with temperatures hovering around 45°C. My main frustrations with the BQ16 are the firmware bugs that cause IoT device disconnections. If you are an early adopter, you must live with such bugs until the next firmware update is available.
So far everything works fine for me, Aqara and Philips Hue/Bridge seems to be ok. The ones having problems at times are Nanoleaf whereby sometimes the lights gets disconnected for a while, and then back on again.

tuya is a china branding...it could be your air purifier because sterra is like slapping on its branding on an oem device.

Unfortunately, I’ve checked the air purifier was already assigned an ip and MAC address from what I see in my clients list. And it wasn’t the same MAC address spamming.

why not u try to block the mac id, then see what gadget is not working in your house ?
Yeah, I’ve tried that by applying mac filtering on all ssids. But it still appears on the system log attempting to do it. Is there a better way to block the mac id? Or I can only do it via mac filtering list via the ssid names?

Hi, I'm planning to sign M1 2.5Gbps plan and majority of the time using WiFi and without using cable. Is it overkill If I buy Asus RT-BE88U as my router? Or should I just stick with the TP 230 basic router?Thank you very much!

Manage to find a time to fix X540-T2 10Gbps NIC card into my PC.

Setup is My republic 10Gbps > BE98 > X540 (in between with CAT 6 cable) getting about +/- 7200 to 7800 Mbps.
For those looking for an affordable 10 Gbps NIC card, can consider X540. However, do consider a separate fan or good air flow since this card will be hot.

FW not updated for Asus WiFi 7 routers not sold in Singapore: ZenWiFi BT6 and ZenWiFi BD4.

The FW updates for the above four Asus WiFi 7 routers have not been made available yet.

But then Asus ZenWiFi BD4 has been listed in Asus Singapore website now (but without listed price yet).
https://www.asus.com/sg/networking-...bd4/helpdesk_bios?model2Name=ASUS-ZenWiFi-BD4

FW not updated for Asus WiFi 7 routers sold in Singapore: TUF-BE6500, RT-BE58U and ZenWiFi BD4.
FW not updated for Asus WiFi 7 routers not sold in Singapore: ZenWiFi BT6.

TUF-BE6500 and RT-BE58U --> two FW versions now
ZenWiFi BT6 and BD4 --> with initial firmware release now

Hi all,

Just wanna check if anyone managed to connect directly to the FTP port and bypass the ONT using RT-BE88U router sfp + connection? Manage to find via youtube channel (user openrouter) and I think it is possible.

If yes, may I know if anyone can assist to supply or confirm the following info if possible?

a) the type of transceiver that is supported for this bypass

b) reputable taobao link selling this fibre transceiver (or RJ45) and RT-BE88U

c) if I will to use one of the 2.5G link port from the router as a WAN, I can use the 10G RJ45 port (not sfp+) as a LAN and the output is 10GB?

Many thanks for your input and much appreciated.

Nobody has the successful story to replace the XGS-PON ONR/ONT (of any ISPs) with an XGS-PON ONU (or ONU Stick) in this forum. There are many success stories to replace Singtel/WC GPON ONR with a GPON ONU (or ONU Stick) in this forum.

For Option C, your WAN speed is limited to 2.5Gbps.

Your only option is to go with VQ 10Gbps plan which provides the Huawei XGS-PON ONT stick at S$99 top-up.
https://viewqwest.com/sg/residential/broadband/power-users/

Or you can go with WC 2.5Gbps plan where you get the GPON ONR. Then get an ONU or ONU stick to replace the WC ONR.

Surprisingly, the ASUS GT-BE98 does not come with Speedtest built into the router. When my friend told me this, i didn't believe him. For such a pricey router, this is quite weird, but not a showstopper.

I flashed the GNUton fork non-ROG version, and it has Speedtest built in. However, when connecting to SingTel's SpeedTest, i could only get around 3 Gbps download and upload. But on a PC, i can get 5 Gbps down and up. Using other ISPs like M1 or NewMedia Express, i could get around 4Gbps down/3Gbps up. Again, not a showstopper, more like a quality of life thing.

ROG GT-BE98 should have built-in OOkla SpeedTest utility, you may want to check again.

If the speed is slower, make sure you disable anything related to QoS and Traffic Analyzer.

Previous reports for your reference.

guys… just an update: what was speculated might not be true. I just did a new firmware update on both my GT-BE98 last night. Now I ran Speedtest directly from my router able to hit higher speed, so it’s not bottleneck by the router’s cpu or hardware it seems.

IMG-0239.png

Nice one. The upload speed is a bit slow though.

The CPU of ROG GT-BE98 is certainly much slower than the Qualcomm IPQ9570/IPQ9574 CPU. But probably OOkla, Asus and Broadcom have tried to optimize the application.

I don think they will go to that extent for all the big players to optimize this small inbuilt app in the router. More like bug related issue like bottlenecking of certain router resource or utilisation management on the kernel layer. Damn this is just speedtesting, how many core of vcpu or memory u need for that short burst of testing? 😅
