As a follow up, it may be that bn is agnostic on where the order comes from for the Nook. bec the hardware is actually quite open. it's the ebook itself that may have copyright issues. although again, i dont see the logic that you can order freely from booksonboard and other online ebookstores which are US-based. anyway with me being a klutz, i realised last night when i tried to order some ebooks and was rejected that i failed to open the hotspot shield to do order!

As it happened anyway, i ordered Nook without hotspot shield on. So we'll see, if it's eventually rejected again, i'll try again! But i doubt it's rejected, bec the rejection for ebook order is almost instantaneous. Cheers, and Happy Lunar new year to all!

Reading Light for our Nook

When at night, am one who likes to read in my bedroom with dimmed light, and I often found it's a bit too dark still to read my Nook. Also, for travels in the plane and when the journey is a long-haul one, they always dim down the lights in the plane, that it's impossible to read your Nook. And there could be any other reasons too, e.g, if you have someone sleeping next to you in the dark room, you wouldn't want to cause disturbance while you need to read your Nook - by using bright lights, right? :s8:

So, this without a doubt a must-have accessory for all Nook owners! ;)

This is the Lyra Light, by B&N:

Am not sure what's the exact price they're retailing it for, but I saw somewhere the B&N forum, it's approximately USD 15.00

Guess what I found at the Japan Home @Tiong Bahru Plaza today.. :D
Hard-to-believe price - SGD 2.90 each!

Exactly works the same like B&N Lyra Light, except it's in Black:

You can also clip at the side of your Nook:

The wire is flexible to be bended in which ever positions you wishes:

The light is turned on when you lightly slide up the round metal button on its top

The clip won't scratch the frame of you Nook, due to a firmed cushion it has on 2 sides
underneath of the clip:

It uses 2 cells of battery (CR 1220), which were already in the light clip
when I purchace it. Anyway, this Battery cells are sold everywhere in supermarkets,
bookstores, etc here in Singapore. And usually, they aren't expensive..

I'm not really certain to - as how many Japan Home outlets are there in Singapore.
To those who know you have one in the nearest mall to your home, go grab it now!
(Or grab more...As, it makes a great gift for any avid readers who have eReaders and it's great too for Hardcover/Paperback readers...) ;)

Am so happy..a great find for my shopping today :s12:

Hi - Thanks so much for the tip on free books. Can I pls ask you and the Nook owners - if you order books from bn.com, how exactly do you know which format you're getting it? I tried 2 trial purchases, and they're both pdb files. I also tried the free classics, and still all pdb. I'm disappointed as I thought there are Nook books on epub? Has anyone bought or downloaded epub books on Nook and are able to read on other readers? I gather from some mobile read forums that Nook drm is particular to Nook - is that so?
I actually emailed bn customer service to say - can you all be more transparent on the file format..!

Also good news for me as my Nook is on the way to vpost. Hopefully I shld get it in Spore early next week, as vpost waiting time can be rather long!

im guilty to say that i did not check the format of the ebook purchased from nook till u asked this qn lol...i remember i side loaded a epub into nook and i am able to read it via nook.

have not tried to read epub from nook to other readers cos i stucked to my nook now lol...even my 505 is collecting dust and also i got some unread ebooks in the 505.

last night i purchased an ebook from ebooks.com and managed to side load it to nook via ADE and it works on my nook also weeks ago i purchased an ebook from bn and side loaded it to nook and when i tried to open it up i was told to key in the credit card number that i used to purchased it(obviously it needs to make sure the cc i used to purchased the ebook must tally with the cc numbers that i need to key in)before i am allowed to read it.

Ok great, thanks. So when you purchase from bn.com, you still need to sideload it right? If you put it into your bn account My ebooks or something, it won't automatically synch with Nook through wifi?

Is it right that sideloaded content goes into separate folder or something - called My documents? and not into main ebook directory (sorry, not sure how to say this bec i dont hv my unit, and dont know what the interface looks like)? Is it also true that side loaded content, you cant have the navigation as good as content that's downloaded directly from mylibrary at bn.com? thanks so much in advance..

no. if i purchased ebooks from bn directly i do not need to side load it. once u use the check for new b&n contents option in nook the purchased ebook will appear in nook.
use side load only for ebooks not purchased from bn or other ebooks u got for free from other sources.

side loaded contents goes into my documents folder in nook when u connected it to yr computer.

the only drawback abt side loaded contents is that u can't have the colorful book cover of yr ebooks. the rest of the navigation works as well.

My Nook has arrived at vpost centre in Oregon. Now I have to exercise extreme patience(!) as I have other items and reader cover not there yet either!
But on ebooks, I appreciate the choice and lower prices of b&n ebooks. That alone is one reason to get Nook. I find Sony bookstore prices priced about US$2 or more than b&n; booksonboard likewise, and as for fictionwise (owned by b&n) prices can even be higher, which is ridiculous esp when ebooks end up costing more than physical books. The thing to be prepared for is if b&n behaves like amazon and keeps some proprietary drm code that other readers cant access..

Cover well, i was extravagant. i took the plunge and ordered a cover from oberondesign.com. rather exp, but they look beautiful (and ordered bookmark as well as cardholder in the process!). So all in , I better keep and like my Nook! but later i found this nook book cover at amazon called the mod flip. it's at the moment on preorder basis at US$20, which is v reasonable price for leather cover ..
i havent got anything else, dont think i need screen protector; i never used one for my 505..
