Can I confirm if you used trip or ctrip for train tickets and other attraction tickets? If I use my friend’s China mobile number to buy train ticket, will there be issues if the ticket is tagged to my passport and full name?

Can someone also assist with qns on luggage onboard hsr? I will be taking from Shanghai to Beijing. Do I need to reserved certain kind of seat ticket like in Japan for luggage? If no special ticket required, will there be sufficient luggage space in 2nd class or should I buy a first class seat so that there is a separate luggage area from 2nd class and I don’t have to keep staring at it in case got ppl remove my luggage to put theirs (yes I saw this in Japan last time by someone people)?

1. As long as your name and passport are correct for the train ticket, who buys also the same.

2. No special ticket. U can store your luggage on top of your seat. There is a luggage storage area at either front or behind of the train cabin. Of cause no one will look after them, it is at your own risk.

Has anyone tried putting the 28’ （less than 160cm adding all the dimensions) luggage in front of seat leg space are? Can the seats in second class or first class recline? I will have difficulties storing luggage on top coz luggage is too heavy for me with 2 weeks worth of stuff and doubt the overhead area can fit my luggage.

You might be able to squeeze your 28 inches luggage in front of your seat leg space but where r u going to store your 2 legs? Further the staff patrolling the cabin will not allow. Again if u die die die die must bring a 28 inches luggage and die die die die must take train n worry your luggage items might be stolen then take business class, bigger space and less passenger.

I only have 28’ one since my old one spoilt just before check in last yr. hence wondering if the seats can be reclined in 2nd class. If yes then I will look at 1st or business. If the luggage compartment separate for 1st and 2nd class? I thought I saw the train seat plan before but suddenly cannot find

Oversized luggage can go into the space located behind the last row of seats and into the racks between carriages. For HSR, all seats recline. Carriages are either 1st or 2nd or business class, and each carriage has its own luggage compartment.

Why not just download the 12306 app yourself and purchase the train ticket, the new updated english UI works fine too, though still limited as compared to the Mandarin version. Less hassle and worrisome if there are issues.

There's luggage space above the seats, similar to a plane, but its the metal rails rack kind.
Otherwise, the space in between each cabin will have storage space metal racks for bigger sized luggage too, though if you are not seated where there is direct line of sight, it might be a concern, since low crime doesn't mean no crime.
Or you are in the front and back of the each cabin, where there is a larger leg room to possible accomodate your luggage.

Trip.com works just fine.

I would try again later, had no issues when i was setting it up in SG, so probably like you said, congested at the moment you were trying.
I did not have a CN number when setting up, so believe it is not mandatory. Note that I am on IOS, might possibly be different on Android.

Trip.com works just fine.

I also booked through trip.com. It's considered 3rd parties, meaning they book on your behalf, so dont last min or same day booking. 12306 is direct if i'm correct.

I've booked biz class via trip.com and i observed sometime for few hours the price will drop for about S$30 bf returning to normal again. Anyway i booked when the price drop so i dont know trip.com will honor it. Will update here eventually whether i successfully receive my tickets/

There is a option to "reserve" tickets (must switch to chinese language) for sold-out trains, anyone knows if the chances are good to get tickets that way?

if you cant get ticket, you can also buy a ticket on the very same train but ending at an earlier stop

then the attendant will come around asking who wants to 补票. you can do so/ pay on the spot to top up the fare difference.

The “Mobile number” only accept phone numbers from China mainland, Hong Kong, Macau & Taiwan. Do not worry - you can still use the App to buy tickets even if the “Mobile number” is not verified. The purpose of this phone number is for the App to receive the detailed info (e.g. Train No, Date, Time, Seat No) of the ticket you bought. Even if the “Mobile number” is not verified, the App will still send the info to the “E-mail address”.

yup i tried it that day, apparently last train quite hard to get even though i 补票 (45% chance) and waited for 5days liao.

actually i don't think it matters too much, they track mainly by passport number

anyway just an update if anyone is interested, i recently tested adding my friend as passenger, can verify online using email + photo of passport and can book without restrictions, totally no need to go to counter anymore and no chinese number needed
