Actually from time to time, it might be a better idea to just buy biz class outright. For eg, last year December I flew TG J to Oslo and paid only $3900. Previously the ex-CMB fares were a steal as well :)

I can't afford the cash hehe... I do sometimes find MH promos offers cheap Biz class tickets, like only $1k. But I usually just save the money for the hotel since I'm an economy/budget flyer.

Yea but I try not to fly MH because that would mean transiting in KLIA. I usually have a choice of MH Biz or SQ Y for my flights to SH. :)

It's great when you're on company expense. :D Everything is out of my own pocket so I look for cheap flights. I hope MH offers good prices again on their next promo, China bound flights were damn cheap since the boycott by the Chinese since the aftermath of MH370.

I think let's take this to another thread. Let's keep the discussion focused on the Credit Card. :s13:

1. Try flying within China or China to any place else. Its ridiculously expensive, miles are easily worth >3c per mile.

2. Need to buy tickets at short notice or not so flexible timeframe. Miles open up possibility and miles are worth 1.5c or more depending on where and when.

3. Longhaul flights with stopovers, you want to fly to USA and stopover at seoul for a few days, miles are easily worth 2c and above.

4. Biz class flights to anywhere. I won't even dream of buying biz class tickets but miles open up the possibility of traveling in biz class, miles usually worth 3c and above.

Above are just some of the situations where miles can come in useful and are worth the efforts collecting. IMO, only econ class to europe and those destinations covered by budget airlines might not be worth redeeming with miles else others are worth considering. BTW, taxes and surcharges for european destinations are around $500 only, don't know how you come out with the $800 example.

Great post

is there a way to check the breakdown of points earned within a card?

becoz i dont see myself earning 10x from my online spending and so is there any restriction on what they considered online spending? (FYI i know bill payments, recurring payment etc are not)

Only way is to work it out manually. Either that or check with the cso which transactions get 10x. Lastly you could always post your transactions and the people here can share if they have gotten 10x before

9x points are awarded separately from the 1x.

Actually this applies more on the UOB Preferred Platinum Visa (commonly known as PPV). DBS Woman's World MC don't have much restriction on online spending (mobile apps may or may not qualify though from experience...

Download the form for enrollment and look at it yourself, it is clearly stated that you will not be charged if you already enrolled in other frequent flyer programme from DBS. Call back and ask the CSO to eat sh!t and do her job properly.

Maybe it doesn't qualify? 9x points are posted on the 16th of the next month. I use my own spreadsheet to keep track of my credit card points/miles and compare it with the transactions/points in Internet Banking.

Assume your statement date for 1st bill is 14th june and your online spending is from 1st to 14th june so you get the normal 1x points. On 14th July, you get your 2nd statement and you still get your 1x, no 9x points will show up because its awarded on 15th July. You will only see the 9x points if your statement is after 16th of the month else you will only see the 9x points awarded last month 16th for spending 2 months ago. So what is your statement date and date of transactions else we can't advice you properly.

14jun boon tong kee 172.75 => 34 points awarded
20jun qoo10 11.80 => 2 points awarded
21jun steam games 23.07 => 4 points awarded

points earned/adjusted: 40 => No issues

28jun steam games 23.05 => 4 points awarded
02jul macdonald delivery 14.10 => 2 points awarded
20jul qoo10 59.80 => 11 points awarded

balanced as of last statement: 40 => No issues
pointed earned/adjusted: 121 => 17 points for this month spending + (57.92/5)*9 = 104 points awarded for online spend
balance: 161 => No issues

As per my calculation above, you are already given the 10x points as what you should get, i don't see what problems are you encountering. Are you confused over the points/$ rate?

Any transactions this month will be posted the bonus 9x points next month after the 16th.

So if your transaction is on July, you'll see it in August after the 16th.
