Rooting the Dell Streak

Would apprecaite if someone can explain to me what is rooting the dell streak and what purpose does it serve.

My 2nd question is flash available for 2.1?

Fellow streak owners! need urgent help! Just got a dell streak but it seems i'm unable to get my pc to detect it via the cable and it cant be charged using the wall plug!

Dunno isit streak problem or cable problem. thing is, the phone does light up whenever i plug the cable into the phone, no matter wall plug or pc. but the batt status will not be charging, or no prompt of pc connection!

Can anyone with a spare usb cable sell one to me? urgent. can go ur office pick up! thanks! pm me.

I don't there is any accessories for streak locally, no one locally is going to sell accessories for phone that i not selling in singapore. Your best bet is ebay. I use bought the screen protector and casing on ebay.

Yep, but its still a beta release and the gps is broken, Steve the dev just uploaded the update.zip(so we are able to flash using recovery) for now the gps is not working waiting for him the fix it. But everything else is working. Froyo is smooth like butter. If you need the gps i suggest you just waiting for him release a more stable rom.

BTW its kinda quiet here i guess not much people is using streak.....

i feel that streak is on a high price. for that type of price, in general, most would probably opt for iphone already.

for me, i would hoot a froyo phone ($600~$700) plus ipad ($728). works out about the same.

im stuck at the qualccom thingy leh. can advice me more?

I copy it from MoDaCa Forum

i few people get struck qualccom part. There's is a new and easy method all you just need to do is boot into clockworkmod recocery

this one doesnt involve flashing baseband but will break gps and camera for now - being worked on

Requirements:
YOU MUST BE ON A 2.1 Build

1. download the new update zip:
http://downloads.streakdroid.com/djsteve/b.../update-new.zip
mirrors: http://build.streakdroid.com/update-new.zip

2. install clockworkMod recovery : linked here

3. place the update-new.zip onto your sd card
4. boot streak into recovery by shutting down and holding vol up and down as you press power
5. select update from .pkg option and wait for Clockwork to load.
6. select flash zip from sd
7. choose select zip from sd and find the update-new.zip and flash it
8. reboot and wait a while

this can be rooted using universal androot but could take 2 attempted

fix the package checker error by removing the apk from /system/app using root explorer or similar
