Hi, Just bought and setup my DNS-323 and found out there is a new firmware 1.04. Mine current is 1.03. Question is should I upgrade the firmware? Any known problem with 1.04? And can the application compiled for 1.03 can work properly in 1.04? thanks!
no problem with 1.04. in fact it's better to format your drives using 1.04 so that u can use unicode filenames (and no need to set your winxp to chinese)

Hi! I just bought the DNS323 with 2x250GB Seagate HDD, connect it to my Speedtouch 585 router and my desktop pc. I insert the CD but it cannot seem to find the drive? This thread is too long and was wondering anyone can pinpoint me to where to configure and install things like BT/Print Server? Thanks in advance.

1. You can use the bundled application to find your NAS
2. Or go to your router web administration interface to find out what IP has been assigned to your NAS
3. Or do a network or broadcast ping to determine what IP has been assigned to your NAS.
4. Or engage our services for on-site support. My ex-company used to charge $2000/man-day though :p

$2000/man-day charge is not uncommon. must be big IT firm/servicing company? alas, not as many people are into IT profession as before. its difficult and costly to train people, equipments are too expensive and too many stuffs to know and the knowledge you invested in become obsolete very fast. its a lot easier just being a PC repairman, but even this kind of job is no better prospect.

Bought the DNS323 quite some time ago. Recently upgrade my setup to 500GB x 2 (Seagate) from my 320GBx2 setup. Also upgrade the firmware to latest 1.04.

Firmware upgrade fixed the issue of unicode files, but brought the following problems not encountered previously;
1. Unable to connect back to network shares after reboot of NAS. Need to go to web console and click on some settings before the shares reappear on the network again.
2. As my Setup is RAID 1. 500GB x 2 ... My left or right drive becomes degraded when i shutdown the NAS using the web console or push button. After rebuilt of the degraded drive(take out kill the paritions and re-insert), the units runs fine until the next shutdown.

Anyone encounter the same problem(s)?

It might help to lockdown your dns-323's ip address via your router's admin pages.

On your client machine, you can then map a drive directly to the fixed ip address, e.g. \\192.168.x.x\Volume_1

Hi! Manage to fix my NAS storage. I think my desktop is too old. I am using a AMD XP1700 with 1GB DDR ram. But when I use my laptop, no problem using the included disk. Upgraded to firmware 1.04 also. Now I have a few more things to ask:-
(1) How to set up the bittorrent? I read the ML Donkey/Funplug but still not getting it. I have save the file as mention by ShadowAndy but when i point my webpage, I get nothing.
(2) I also have a MacMini which I would like to be able to access my DNS 323. How to network a Mac OS X with theDNS323?
