Yes, some PC shop in SimLim/Funan are selling. Challenger is selling too. Other brands like the WD also selling media player with recordable function.

That's good to know. Read on another thread that this guy could only record free to air from TV. Guess he didn't configure it right.

if u are IT/DIY PC savvy:

you can slap up a HTPC using used and even something like the integrated graphics on a 780G motherboard from 2008 would be good to go for playback and add in hdd, DVDRW optical and a TV card/video capture device can be a very cheap solution You have option of upgrading to blu ray drive, codecs, discrete graphics card, etc and it wun become obsolete anytime soon

The Samsung and LG 250GB HDD recorders should still be available at Courts, gain City..... I think it is $299 or $399. I have used both before. Samsung is not so user friendly in the recording. Not easier to record. LG is much better.

Yes, LG still selling. Just saw one at Best Denki. But no other models.

Between the LG and the Panasonic, go for the Panasonic. Its more expensive but its worth it. My LG RIPed after 1.5 years. In addition, the LG does not allow u to watch your pre-recorded shows while a recording is taking place. U can do so with the Panasonic.

Hello everyone,

It suddenlly dawned to me that there are no many DVD + HDD Recorders being sold any more. In fact, the only one that I saw at Courts is LG. Even Panasonic does not offer DVD + HDD Recorders anymore.

Anyone here care to comment what contributed to the demise of such a product? I personally like to record TV programmes so that I can view it at my own leisure and skip the commercials.

Thanks for the reply. But then a DVD is too small to store all the programmes that I record. Hence, HDD is a must for me.

Mine's a LG RH387 which I felt its very good.. 160GB good enough to do daily recording of two hour show for quite long period... price wise is the cheapest among all.. I remember I bought it at $248 or $288 few months back.. In fact this is the second one I have. The first one was 8 years old liao but my father still using it finely. Only no-good is it burn recorded program almost at real time...

Only 3 brands has this type of player now.. LG, Samsung, Pana.. But you don't see alot of retailer carrying it probably due to low demand..

Well, alot of owners now has set-up box which can double up as DVR...

I bought the Panny EH69 for $599. I din know Sammy and Pioneer has models out there. Would have checked them out. The one reason I bought the more expensive Panny is because it has 3 inputs. The LG has only 2, one back and one front. I need 3 inputs for SH, Mio and camcorder.
