Mine's a LG RH387 which I felt its very good.. 160GB good enough to do daily recording of two hour show for quite long period... price wise is the cheapest among all.. I remember I bought it at $248 or $288 few months back.. In fact this is the second one I have. The first one was 8 years old liao but my father still using it finely. Only no-good is it burn recorded program almost at real time...

Only 3 brands has this type of player now.. LG, Samsung, Pana.. But you don't see alot of retailer carrying it probably due to low demand..

Well, alot of owners now has set-up box which can double up as DVR...

I just bought a Pioneer HDD / DVD recorder from Harvey Norman Hougang Mall last month. This is my 2nd set..Work well..

Does anyone know where I can still find Panasonic or Pioneer DVD/HDD Recorder? I went to 3 different Best Denki & Harvey Norman places in the west area & they don't sell them anymore.

Don't really like LG because it's not very user friendly ( my old one that just died is a LG). Unfortunately, that is the only model that seems to be left. And only at one Best Denki outlet. No other place seems to even have ANY brand of DVD/HDD Recorder at all.

Any help appreciated

Pioneer is long gone as they sold the right to Panasonic. Believe is hard to find Panasonic now a day too.

I used only LG. This is the only recorder that I know you can change or upgrade harddisk size by yourself -- ie not locked. If your old LG is dead due to disk problem, you can still repair it.

Wow, I didn't know that about Pioneer. They were cutting edge in tech.

I also didn't know that LG HDD can be removed. Unfortunately, both the HDD & the DVD drive in my LG have both died. I was unable to burn my recorded tv programs into discs because of that. Better for me to get a new one.

I'm thinking of getting a Panasonic from either E-Bay or Amazon. I actually found some online overseas sellers whose price (including shipping) are cheaper than local retailers. Eg, the Panasonic EH69 goes for about S$600++ shipped to Singapore vs Best Denki's retail price of S$749:

(Not sure why they still have it listed in their catalogue when they don't seem to sell it anymore)

With the upcoming TV broadcast switch from analog to digital, it might be better to consider assembling a HTPC and using TV tuner cards to record your TV programmes.

Well, the front-end of the HTPC can be carefully selected to be as user-friendly as the DVD/HDD recorder, with features like big fonts, using remote controller, etc. Many of them are freeware too.

Actually, even the DVD drive can be replaced with some LG model purchased in those pc shop.

Pioneer is cutting age technology ? I do not think so. when ,many recorder started to support +r, DVDRam. They are still only on -R and -RW. Quite limited choice of media actually.

It's a mystery to me why they they discontinued production. Even the LG models are getting hard to find.

I bot a pioneer DVD HDD recorder on yr 2006. Still works well for me.

But nowadays DVD recorders are veri hard to find, cos cable tv providers like starhub now issue HDD box which can record n store programs.

Try Giant superstore and mustaffa centre for LG's dvd cum hdd recorder. Its a 2 in 1. i used it only once and there was problems. just didnt boot up. sent to service centre last friday, and collected it today. hdd spoilt. sway sway, today is the warranty expire. but LG gave 3 months warranty for the hdd only

But I donno why they still have it in their catalogues, since their branches don't have it.

However, I did recall seeing a last few sets of the LG 250GB recorder at the Clementi Mall Best Denki. I remember that it was on sale. But I didn't buy it because I find LG recorder problematic & not user-friendly.

But if you still want it, maybe you can google their website & call their number to find if still got stock.
