it's the direction we are headed and an inevitable one. doesn't mean its the right path.

just like lky handing over to lhl and then now lw. each was planned way ahead but a step back - doesn't mean the future is always brighter.

amongst the major automobile producers, US/Japan never subscribed to the same narrative. the original pushers of clean vehicles, the EU - which we take reference from - is now backpedaling on its EV initiatives.

only china is pushing hard, and that is because they have monopoly of the raw materials required for EV production.

Depends on country.

frankly I switch to EV as I’m wowed by their tech, quietness and torque… and had no issues with charging. Going green is not a factor and I can camp in my EV for hours without worries :ROFLMAO:

do the EVs here come with artificial sounds as an option?
cheap thrill since cannot afford a real V8 ICE. but i do find the quietness of EV abit of a hazard especially in car parks.

Some have preset sound for low speed or a selection. Singapore dont require that so I know a lot of EV drivers including myself prefer total silence, that’s the beauty?

Dafug. I asking ICE or EV Nia oso can devolve till ICE vs EV fight.

To me I am an everyday consumer looking for the best bang for buck over 10yrs. I don’t have big ideals saving the environment nonsense

precisely buy one that suit your lifestyle.

seal with 523hp but only 180km/h top speed definitely makes me think twice. an ice with 250km/h top speed is definitely going to overtake me within 30secs :s13:

the thoughts spending more time charging and shifting the car is not what i want.

if i get an ev it is definitely because ice cannot idle.

Yah. Facelifted. One of the first owners in Singapore on 1st batch. Doesn't feel like its underpowered. The turbocharger delivers power where power is needed, it doesn't feel like an uphill struggle on my max carry of 3 humans + luggage on eco mode, in fact, engine rev remains comfortable at slightly below 2000rpm.

100km/h cruise at about slightly under 2000rpm when throttle is engaged. But usually I just do eco mode so i just let go of my gas and let the coasting mode kick in so that engine rev drops to 0.

its a pretty well decked out car, mine's the life plus model since I got it from my SE during the free upgrade period (2nd VW though. My first was the T-Cross. A more fun ride compared to the Tiguan).

Tiguan emphasises alot on safety, so if you are a cheongster, warning beeps on brake alerts due to distance between u and the front car will come on very often.

the autodrive is a boon for that 5secs when you need to hand-off steering wheel for a few seconds (after that, all the warning will kick in liao).

i have tried being utterly distracted when driving. The car kinda sensed it and disabled the huge 15" screen cos i was tapping on it absent mindedly, and of course, warning beep again to "keep my eyes on the road".

yah. Basically whatever b*stard thing you can think of what a cheongster will do, i threw at this car. And the car always have a counter action to slap me back into proper driving.

underrated but necessary features include heater, hand warmer on steering wheel, ventilated seats, heated seats, massage function and kick boot.

quirks include left mirror cannot dip in reverse mode even when it is activated. And random beeps about front assist and side assist unavailable. The former, can't solve. The latter need to bring in for a software upgrade, tell your SE before purchase. I have to send my car in for 2 days cos the beeps got alarmingly bad to the point where service centre cannot manually clear error and its only resolved after software upgrade.
Thanks for sharing! Last question, What's your average FC? 🙏

I don’t drive past 120 so honestly 250 has no meaning to me. My current I think is 240? I don’t rmb

there you have your answer. we don't live your life so get one that suit you the most.

i will definitely go for ev if charging and top speed is not my concern.

Yeah I am more keen on EV now. Was initially worried abt reliability and battery actually. But looking at the comments it seems ok. Actually prolly a BYD seal

yeah reliability should be the most important aspect. like why people choose mercs over bmw.

my coy bought EVs and if i am not wrong it is hyundai. not sure what model, but all has issues within half a year. usage is probably less than 1hr a day.

buy EV over ICE.
Buy a Tesla . you will not regret. future proof
Tesla is doing bi weekly car firmware update. you get continuous features improvement.
after 3 years of usage, you still don't feel the features aging problem.

if you are keen on Tesla, ping me to know more.

EV advantages
1. silky smooth drive resolution.
EV motor drive power delivery is linear in nature whereas ICE combustion power transformation is chemical explosion, exponential .
EV can be driven with very refined slow drive and instant torque with high acceleration.
regardless over EV car power output, it still deliver smooth low end drive.

ICE power delivery is very very complex. uneven torque distribution.

2. range anxiety is over rated.
get both ICE and EV stuck in heavy traffic, the EV will consume much less energy than ICE.
400km range is sufficient for daily drive at city state.

3. software features advantages.
which ICE car gives OTA firmware update.

I will not go back for ICE car for my daily drive.
exception for exotic ICE sport car(non daily use)

i am still doubtful of all these new fangled engine tech.

anyway, EMA's directive didn't say "Electric vehicle only..." but said "CLEANER ENERGY VEHICLES... allowed for registration from 2030 and only CLEANER ENERGY VEHICLES on the road by 2040", which means mild hybrids will still be around past 2030 deadline.

so, screw EVs.
initially it does focus on EV however when BMW/Toyota along with which car company(forgotten) announced hydrogen, they like flip prata flip to the term 'cleaner energy vehicles' or 'lean energy vehicle' in 2022 or early 2023.

I have no issues with EVs la but its battery too dangerous to be around.. imagine u park in your underground carpark and kaboom... the entire fleet of EVs along each other all burnt down like wild fire. The insurance company will only compensate u at market rate which also means ur car burnt down, you still need to pay for whatever u still owe to the bank. At First 2-3 years kena burnt, u sure lose money like mad, if u take high loan for 7yrs and beyond.
