Well, I think safety first. Others may not. But I take road safety anytime.
Safety is turning when clear, not risking when can't see clear. Stairs also can cause falls and injury but I don't see HDB put mattresses at the steps or bottom of the steps to prevent hurt.

Without the discretionary turn, when there is 0 oncoming traffic, it adds to unnecessary build up from the other direction. Thanks to the removal, I have to wait at the junction for additional 3-5 minutes where there is no oncoming traffic before turning.

can just prepare full excess since you were turning right at a discretionary right turn and got banged during the turn. almost no case unless the taxi can be proved to be excessive speeding or beat the light.

above 22 and experienced drivers $6480, young or inexperienced drivers $10800.

till now still don’t understand the mentality of ppl renting car not getting CDW.. Even super laojiao drivers also tend to get CDW when renting a car like when they go overseas etc

Road safety is to stay off the road. If road safety matters, then limit all cars to go no more than 25km/h and no right turns only left. Make 4 left turns to get right.

Sounds like his fault too. Turning when knowing well that theres a car coming from the front. That's why I wish they will remove theses discretionary right turn and put a green arrow.
The discretionary right turn at BreadTalk building towards kpe is dangerous. The curvature of the road result in drivers not able to see far. Wonder when is LTA going to remove it.

I also prefer discretionary right turn. The opp side going straight just need to be more careful when approaching traffic lights. Those arrows create longer waiting time to turn right. The queue will be super long if there is only 1 lane for right turn.

Well, you have your opinion I have mine. Road Safety First. All lives matter. Save minutes, lose life or be patient and save life.

Skewed logic. Safety first then don't even drive or leave house. One can use common sense to do discretionary right turn and save time and save life.

Likely don't even drive to even make such a suggestion.

Let's agree to disagree. You have your opinion and I respect that. Ohhhh btw I will still be driving and highly like been driving much longer than you have.

So if you’re waiting at a discretionary right turn junction, waiting to turn right … no incoming traffic at all … actually .. no cars, no pedestrians at all … you’ll still wait for that green arrow to come on? :s13:

I was turning right at a discretionary right turn and the vehicle from the front sped and hit my rear while I was almost 80% completed my turn
This scenario compared to the one hitting your rear (straight) is totally different bro

hi all, got into a bad accident while on a getgo car and a taxi driver crashed onto the back of my car. Can I ask whats the max damage payment if i never opt into CDW? I saw the website the excess fee is 10.8k, is that the max i have to pay? and will i get my license revoked? Thanks in advance
Not ur fault y need to pay?

If drivers cannot be expected to handle discretionary turn safely, then they have no right to be on the road. They pose the same level of risk and probability of causing an accident in another form.

Just prepare at most 10.8k gone. Don't need to think too much. You won't win 100% of this case since you are partially at fault for not checking clear and safe before doing the right turn.

Depends on the road as well. On my regular route, there is a junction allowing U-turn/right-turn but the road ahead has a curve. So when starting the U-turn, it can look clear, then some chiongster can come racing out of the curve. So if he has car cam showing it was clear when he started his turn then maybe will be fully on the other car especially since coming to junction should slow down.

Driving longer than somebody doesn't mean that they have logical thinking. Kia si thinking doesn't count.

If you are in the shoes of the taxi driver, your story would be different:
  • You clearly have the right-of-way with green light going straight
  • The opposite right-turning lane is discretionary
So this bugger starts turning and unfortunately you hit his left-rear and somehow you become liable for some damages? I think you would find this unacceptable.

If you are in the shoes of a 'chiongster', then yes perhaps you do bear some liability.

The onus is on TS to make sure the incoming traffic is clear before starting the turn. If TS is unsure, just wait, it is that simple. If you get horned and you start turning and you hit another vehicle or get hit, the car(s) that horned you are not going to pay for your damages anyway.

I hope I never have to be in the shoes of the taxi driver. Personally, I don't care if I have the right of way. if I am clearly at risk of hitting the other car going the same speed I am, I will rather hit the brakes if safe and let him go ahead first. Similarly if I cannot be sure the other car is going to stop at the stop line and give way, I am going to be prepared to slow/stop. No point having the right of way and ownself suffer in the crash.

We won't know the full story about this particular incident but yes, the best we can do is slam the brakes and pray hard you don't hit the turning car and not get hit at your back too.
