signed up for singtel mobile boardband today but my nexus 7 can't seem to read the sim card. it is able to read all the other sim card but could not identify this particular one.

already tried the mobile boardband simcard in bundle and in my iphone and it works, but not the nexus 7.

Can I check if the "tablet UI" is gone in stock JB (4.1/4.2/4.3) ?

And the only way to get this UI is via custom roms ?

I assume you are talking about Nexus 7? It has always been in phablet UI so.....?

In short it is gone in Nexus products, but as it is a manufacturer setting, some products still come with the old tablet UI. Asus offers both UI choices in their own Transformer line, at least from what I saw.

Thanks...I am referring to Android tablets in general...

I thought Google had removed the function totally from the latest Android 4.3 such that manufacturers also cannot reactivate the tablet UI.

Try this:

1. Go to Setting > Apps, then scroll right to the 'All' tab at the top
2. Scroll down to Google Services Framework and select it
3. Hit the 'Clear data' button
4. Go to Settings > About tablet > System updates (you will notice the date will be 1969 or 1970, this is ok )
5. Hit the 'Check now' button

Works!!! Thanks bro!

It is still alive for sure in 4.1/4.2....Don't think it's removed in 4.3 also.

Can't read as in the top indicator is a hollow one, or can't detect sim card, or just no data connection?

Some good news for those who are or will be on JB 4.3

Android 4.3 Update Brings TRIM to All Nexus Devices

One of the common complaints late in the life of the original Nexus 7 was slow storage I/O performance, leading to an inconsistent user experience. After a fresh flash, the Nexus 7 was speedy and performant, but after months of installing applications and using the tablet, things began slowing down. This was a friction point that many hoped would be fixed in the new Nexus 7 (2013) model, which it was. There’s even more to the story though, it turns out Google has fixed that storage I/O aging problem on all Nexus devices with the Android 4.3 update.

anyone can enlighten me, where to buy the usb cable for nexus 7 that allows data transfer and charging?

You can buy the Note2/S4 white cable from Qoo10. Data transfer is usually not a problem, for charging you need 2A, so the closest and most easily available will be the Note2/S4 cable.

Not sure if this has been asked before, but is the older gen nexus 7 still a worth it buy?

Mainly gonna use it for ebooks, comics, web surfing, videos and email in that order.

Will be mainly for commuting to and from work, so 3g is imp. Wifi at work is spotty at best.

Or should I future proof abit and get the New Nexus? Reviews have stated that it's got lousy battery life tho, I think due to the new screen.

My friend just bought a nexus 7 with 3g. But when the sim card is inside, there is no 3g connection. Called singtel but no help.

By right as long as 3g is activate on the sim card then it should work. Anyone know why is it not working? Or have to bring down to Asus for service?
