My friend just bought a nexus 7 with 3g. But when the sim card is inside, there is no 3g connection. Called singtel but no help.

By right as long as 3g is activate on the sim card then it should work. Anyone know why is it not working? Or have to bring down to Asus for service?

Hi curo,

Did u find any solution? I just bgt a Nexus 7 3G from a forummer (already on 4.3) and when i tried to enter the APN settings for my carrier, it does not even let me save the settings so i can't make use of my mobile data SIM card.

I did a google and noiced that others have the same issue:

Google Groups

I am wondering if it might be a 4.3 issue and will prob just wait for an update. But if anyone on 4.3 got their 3G to work, please post so that i can narrow down the possible causes

Question for you gentlemen.

Is it better to just go for the wifi version of the nexus 7 2nd gen or wait for the LTE version?

I know that you can just save money, opt for the wifi version and use your mobile phone as a hotspot for your nexus when you are outside but thing is, i have a singtel ideas 3g sim card (for mobile internet) that i got for free after signing up for a singtel broadband plan.

Can i use that simcard for this nexus 7? Obviously i would need a dongle(i think?)
Really want to get my hands on the new nexus 7 but don't wanna waste the free ideas 3g..

Please enlighten me all you lao jiaos!

Thanks

If cost and waiting time is not a factor, and you have a spare sim card, sure, why not?

I waited for the 3G version for my 1st gen N7, and I would not go for a wifi only version. But that's my personal choice, and I'm sure there's a lot of wifi only diehards who have millions of reasons to justify their choice. :D

Update: did not really see any case i like for the nexus 7 at Funan or SL. In the end, i bgt a Nillkin flip case from Ebay which has the magnetic switch for ard US$21

I am using the Nillkin case for my nexus 7 too and it is a good case. The case is pretty slim and the magnetic auto on/off is really a good feature to have. A lot of time, I just close and open the flap to switch on the nexus instead of hunting for the power button.

You can also fold it and make into a stand for the nexus, however it is not super stable due to the thin material. The major negative point for me is that after only 4 months of usage, the leather is peeling off, exposing the plastic cardboard on the flap. I've to use some glue to fix it :) The weakest part is the area where you hold the flap when opening it.

ok. thks for the feedback. i already have the Asus travel case which i really like except that it is missing the magnetic on-off. guess i will have to be more careful with the Nillkin if it is so fragile
