i think the most important part of tamping is consistency. always use the same amount of strength to tamp, and adjust other variables such as grind size to control the taste of the coffee.

Sometimes I use a harder tamp to control the taste of the espresso. For some beans there is a point where u can grind as fine as u can before the results start to taste muddy. Usually it's just a straight down tamp with the espro tamper.

Hey, what do you guys think of getting coffee beans from ntuc from brands like robert tim and illy etc?

If u desperately need the caffeine then it's ok. If not stay far far away. Bitter and unpleasant.
Illy claims to be able to preserve the freshness with their tins. This is of course nonsense.

They're great for seasoning your new grinder/new burrs.
Or for whatever reason that you decided to drink them, sure why not, just make sure to put in lots of sugar. =:p

Iirc some ppl tested the illy stuff, it's fresh for first few days, but it degrade extremely fast. May not stay good longer than 5 days

I let my office tried Illy before and it was pretty well accepted.
The only bad point is it's super exp in SG.

Nice crema, well balanced, nutty, etc.
Don't see any evidence of it being stale.

Never tried the Robert Timm coffee before, but always eat at their restaurants and they are pretty decent though.

i'd used one before... kinda like it. but it taste kinda too clean for my liking. try not to use cloth filter as it'll take away all the oil and characteristic of the coffee.

Finally obtained my portafilter funnel! Good solid stainless steel one @112rmb inclusive delivery.

Good and cheap alternative from OE sue to higher delivery costs.

Sent from Samsung SM-N910G using GAGT

Thanks. So you recommend to use a paper filter? What is the brand and model of the syphon setup you used?
