I also eat fish oil but still have high cholesterol despite no family history, not fat (consider slightly under weight) and I exercise everyday. I changed my diet (cut down on fried food, red meat, animal organs, food with lots of gravy) also didn't help, also prepare my own lunch on working days (mostly steam chicken and veggies) since I likely will have dinner outside.
Been taking medication (low dosage) for almost 2 years. Recently changed from simvastatin to atorvastatin since the former didn't seems to help anymore. Side effects are the same, muscle aching.
Oats actually helps but must eat constantly to have effects.
I don't believe any supplements can help.

how high is your Cholesterol or LDL? I'm not fat too, with LDL at 5.6mmol/L during 2017. I reduce via diet after rejecting the doc recommendation. But not be the wisest decision based on hindsight, since my high LDL persist for a few years before I managed to find a suitable diet that eventually get my LDL to 2.9 by 2022. But did not sustain the diet and during the recent 2024 test, it's back to 3.5 mmol/L.

What works for me might not work for others though. For me, my LDL responds to fatty meat so when I reduce that, I got my LDL to mid 4 but when I start to reduce more meat intake, and eat plant based diet around 60-70% of the time, I got my LDL to 2.9.

That's what works for me. Eating much much lesser meat. Give it a try for 2-3 weeks and go to your GP for a lipid test (less than $30) to check if it works for you.

Diet and lifestyle change first.

If no change, then it's genetic. No choice but to be on statins. Best to check for ApoB levels, more accurate

My total chlorestrol and LDL went up couple if years after I got married and moved out and had all meals outside. Had my 1st full health screen in 2014, total cholesterol 5.9mmol, LDL was 3.85mmol. Went down a little (no change in my diet or lifestyle) when I took my blood test 2 years later but still high. Start eating oats and it went down to borderline.

In year 2020, shoot up again (I guess I ate too much chips during covid), no choice have to eat statin and change my diet.

Late last year doc advised me to change medication since simvastatin doesn't seem to help me. The new one seems better, less than a month already start to lower my chlorestrol readings.

I started LF (skip breakfast), low carb diet, brought my own lunch to work in 2019, not sure if that affect my chlorestrol but definitely lack of Vit B.

when it shoot up again in 2020, how high was the LDL?

ApoB will be a better indicatior. I did mine earlier before CNY. Normal range for ApoB but LDL is 3.5 will the borderline high.

No medication recommended (age mid 40s) but not going to take chance this time. Going to get my diet in order again (much lesser meat and more veg), and try to get the LDL to below 3.0.

Bringing your own food should help. Less oil and rubbish in our own homecooked food. Better for cholesterol and health.

I’ve been living with high cholesterol since 10 years ago, possibly longer cos I didn’t go for checkups before that

My cholesterol is like 260+ kind

i refused medicine cos once you start on it then it’s difficult to go off
I also read that it could be genetic

I ate carrots and broccoli for breakfast and had paleo diet 5 days a week for abt 2 years but it only went down to 240

My conclusion is…. Just do whatever and exercise.

*I’m 1.82m tall and 82kg, if that matters

Stop eating fried food or fatty meat

Avoid red meat like lamb, beef or pork

Eat more sardines and chicken.
Omega 3 in sardines can help boost your HDL to fight LDL ..

I eat at least two eggs fried in olive oil every day plus bacon...and moderate amounts of seafood every now and then. Organ meats, Ribeye, Brisket yummmmmm!
HDL: normal range
LDL: slightly above normal (who decides what's normal? Could it be the ones who make statins, I wonder?)
Triglycerides: normal range
Statins: No
Did you now that Cholesterol is manufactured by the body to perform several vital functions?
Why would the body make it if it's so bad for you?
